Literature is important in everyday life because it connects individuals with larger

truths and ideas in a society. Literature creates a way for people to record their
thoughts and experiences in a way that is accessible to others, through
fictionalized accounts of the experience.

Literature teaches us how to live. Literature makes readers visit places,

experience events, meet people, listen to them, feel their joys and sufferings. It
takes years to acquire so much wisdom that a single book of literary merit instills
in a reader. Literature mirrors the society and its mannerisms. Literature is a
storehouse of all knowledge and wisdom. History, Political Studies, Philosophy,
Science and all other forms of learning are part of literature. It has the potential to
bring revolutions

Literature opens your mind

Literature enables people to see through the lenses of others, and sometimes
even inanimate objects; therefore, it becomes a looking glass into the world as
others view it. It is a journey that is inscribed in pages, and powered by the
imagination of the reader. Ultimately, literature has provided a gateway to teach
the reader about life experiences from even the saddest stories to the most joyful
ones that will touch their hearts.

Perspective: Alternate thoughts and ideas about things known to us.

Knowledge: About things unknown to us including but not limited to ideas,
information and imagery.
It provides an opportunity about appreciating the finer things in life that we so
easily miss.
Language: It makes you appreciate the way language can be used to create art.
And above and beyond all, literature is about loving things unseen, places not
lived, characters that are unreal and emotions we might not have a chance to
experience!

But the reason for which I read literature is very different from all these, I read it
to learn about the various incidents which happen/happened in places all around
the world, at all points of time. It tells you a lot about the times in which the writer
lived, his surroundings, the ambitions of the people in those times and everything
else.
Appreciation for life and the things in it. Reading is one of the few things that
really connect you with your soul. You understand yourself, and in the course of
time, others, much better than you used to previously.
Great vocabulary. A good literature means correct grammar and a storehouse of
words you are yet to come across. And we all know how impressive a beautiful
knowledge of vocabulary is.

we absolutely need literature in our lives. Every book read is like another life
lived. We gain insight, experience, compassion, and knowledge. We learn about
other cultures, other individuals, other places, other times. We learn about
history, mythology (more stories, but ones that influenced many lives and
cultures), religion, and science. We are challenged to think, and to think outside
our personal box. Many books, even fiction books, have quite literally changed
the course of history.

It takes you to a whole other world, makes you feel connected to the characters
and you learn so much about this person that may or may not exist. It reminds
you that the world is huge and there is so much more to it than you know. Life
lessons are learnt. When it comes to literature from other countries, you learn
about their culture, habits, places and people. It's a beautiful thing really!

Literature has the ability to makes us experience more that one lifespan. It
reminds us about humanity its a bond that will last a lifetime.

Literature is important in everyday life because it connects individuals with larger

truths and ideas in a society. Literature creates a way for people to record their
thoughts and experiences in a way that is accessible to others, through
fictionalized accounts of the experience.

Literature is important for many reasons, including its ability to provide pleasure
to readers, to help build experience, to help readers empathize with others and to
develop thinking skills..

Literature also has the power to impart a wide variety of experiences to readers.
A story can expose readers to different places, time periods, viewpoints and
cultures. Readers can gain experiences through literature they would never have
access to in ordinary life. Literature's ability to capture the imagination and depict
the lives of others also increases readers' ability to empathize with others.

Literature helps develop critical-thinking skills. Readings and discussions of

literature force readers to make reasoned judgments about character
motivations, cause and effect, critical analysis of plot and more.
It aids in broadening a person's intellectual horizons and it stimulates a more
active imagination. Literature explores different human beliefs, ideas and
societies. This allows people to learn about where they came from and how past
events work to shape the different cultures.

Studying literature helps readers develop many skills, including reading,

interpretation, discussion and writing. Through sustained study of a poem or
novel, readers can increase vocabulary and become more verbally refined.
Discussing literature improves readers' ability to debate and defend their
thoughts out loud. Writing about literature can also help improve written
communication and organizational skills.

Literature can also help readers build up a much wider range of knowledge,
creating interest in new subjects and experiences. Literature provides vicarious
experiences that directly influence readers' lives. They learn about new places,
new cultures, new ideas and new ways of looking at the world. They can visit
both the past and the future through the imaginative power of stories. A
perceptive reader of a poem or novel may discover an interest in Eastern
philosophy or a new way of thinking about the environment.

Literature also allows readers to perceive and empathize with the experiences of
others. Readers can gain a greater understanding of different races, cultures,
social classes or genders through reading stories about them. This increased
range of experience can actually help readers better empathize with other
individuals in life.

Literature is of great importance and is studied upon as it provides the ability to

connect human relationships, and define what is right and what is wrong.
Therefore, words are alive more than ever before.

literature serves as a gateway to learning of the past and expanding my

knowledge and understanding of the world. Here are just a few reasons why
literature is important.

1. Expanding horizons
First and foremost, literature opens our eyes and makes us see more than just what the
front door shows. It helps us realize the wide world outside, surrounding us. With this,
we begin to learn, ask questions, and build our intuitions and instincts. We expand our
minds.
2. Building critical thinking skills
Many of us learn what critical thinking is in our language arts classes. When we read,
we learn to look between the lines. We are taught to find symbols, make connections,
find themes, learn about characters. Reading expands these skills, and we begin to look
at a sentence with a larger sense of detail and depth and realize the importance of
hidden meanings so that we may come to a conclusion.
3. A leap into the past
History and literature are entwined with each other. History is not just about power
struggles, wars, names, and dates. It is about people who are products of their time,
with their own lives. Today the world is nothing like it was in the 15th century; people
have changed largely. Without literature, we would not know about our past, our
families, the people who came before and walked on the same ground as us.
4. Appreciation for other cultures and beliefs
Reading about history, anthropology, or religious studies provides a method of learning
about cultures and beliefs other than our own. It allows you to understand and
experience these other systems of living and other worlds. We get a view of the inside
looking out, a personal view and insight into the minds and reasoning of someone else.
We can learn, understand, and appreciate it.
5. Better writing skills
When you open a book, when your eyes read the words and you take in its contents, do
you ask yourself: How did this person imagine and write this? Well, many of those
authors, poets, or playwrights used literature to expand their writing.
6. Addressing humanity
All literature, whether it be poems, essays, novels, or short stories, helps us address
human nature and conditions which affect all people. These may be the need for
growth, doubts and fears of success and failure, the need for friends and family, the
goodness of compassion and empathy, trust, or the realization of imperfection. We learn
that imperfection is not always bad and that normal can be boring. We learn that life
must be lived to the fullest. We need literature in order to connect with our own
humanity.
Literature is important and necessary. It provides growth, strengthens our minds and
gives us the ability to think outside the box.

literature also teaches us many lessons that have universal themes, such as
love, war, desire, justice and many more. When we read these topics, we
become much more sophisticated in our thinking and our view of the world
expands. This makes us better citizens.
By following the histories presented throughout English literature, it is possible to
understand how contemporary Western culture has developed into what it is
today. It helps us to understand the past better and learn important lessons of life
from it .

English literature is a path to knowledge. As with all World literature, the English
literature has been a key for understanding the world and a means of inspiring
and supporting cultural and social movements.

Literature reminds us of stories, epics, sacred scriptures, and classical works of

the old and modern times. It is defined as the body of written works of a
language, period or culture, produced by scholars and researchers, specialized
in a given field.

It Provides Information
Literature serves as an enormous information base. Research
works by famous inventors and literary works by notable scientists often
narrate stories of their groundbreaking discoveries and inferences.
Ongoing developments in the fields of science and technology are
documented so that the world can know about them. Several ancient
scriptures relating stories of human evolution and narratives of human life
in those times, have been of tremendous help to mankind. Thus, literature
has always served as an authentic source of information.
Literature is definitely much more than its literary meaning, which defines it as 'an
acquaintance to letters'. In fact, it lays the foundation of a fulfilling life. It adds 'life'
to 'living'.
