I. Jesus is the light, illuminating righteous behaviour (John 8:12).

A. God tells us what righteous behavior is in His Word. Your word is a lamp
to my feet and a light to my path; (Psalm 119:105).
This statement by the Lord was made in the context of life.
B. Jesus taught that light is contrasted with darkness in John 3:19-21.
1. The text talks about evil deeds; some Christian activities
may be evil deedsdepending on who does them.
2. Simply doing right things is not the whole answer.
C. Jesus illustrated righteous behavior by an absolutely perfect life.
In Him was life, and the life was the light of men (John 1:4).

II. Jesus is the light of life, giving eternal life (John 8:12).
A. His teachings are not only able to direct my life, they are
able to give me life.
1. The sun not only provides light to this world, but through that light,
life is possible.
2. Life is one of the themes of Johns Gospel which speaks of physical,
spiritual and eternal life.
B. Jesus offers this life-giving light to the world.
The gospel is the good news that through Jesus our sins can be forgiven,
and we can be given spiritual life.

III. We are lights to the world (Matthew 5:14-16).

A. We manifest the light of Jesus by how we live.
B. God does not put His light in us for us to hide that light.
