F9 Downloads and Activations
The F9 Serial number is not stored in the registry so customers need to retain
a copy of it (typically an email)
Customers have the option to later deactivate a license and transfer to new
hardware
If customers experience issues with serial number use, they should contact
F9 Support for assistance

STEPS - F9 v5 Install
1. F9 Installation
3 F9 V5 requires .NET Framework 3.5 to be installed if it is not already on the system. This may take
approximately 15 minutes to download and install. Click Install and reboot your PC after the installation of .NET
has completed.

5 Click Yes, to accept the F9 License Agreement.

To accept the default location, C:\F9v5, click Next.
To choose another location, click Browse, select another directory/folder and click OK. Then, click Next.
7 InstallShield now begins to install F9. A status bar monitors the install.
9 For some F9 products, InstallShield installs Visual Studio redistributable to provide required Microsoft runtime
libraries

10 Click Finish. The F9 Readme will display next please follow the instructions within this document to
properly setup F9 version 5 in Excel 2007.
Note: Some F9 documentation is in PDF format and requires Adobe Acrobat Reader to view it.
Install Notes
o Common folder C:\F9v5
o Product specific F9 sub-folders (ex pro50p, pro50b).
o F9 v5 Excel 2007 Add-in is called: f9v5.dll

2. Office 2007 Settings
From F9 Readme PDF
Because F9 Version 5 has been developed under a completely new technology, .NET, users
need to ensure support for .NET Add-ins has been setup as part of their Office 2007 installation.
Without this, F9 Version 5 will not attach in Excel 2007.
1. Close Excel
2. Run Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs, select your Microsoft Office 2007
3. Select Change
4. The next window should display 3 options, check the first item: Add or Remove

5. Click Continue
6. Within the tab Installation Options, expand Microsoft Office Excel
7. Click on the arrow for .NET Programmability Support. If the required component is not
installed, you should see the following:

9. Select option: Run from My Computer
11. Click on the arrow for Digital Certificates for VBA Projects.
12. If the required component is not installed, select option: Run from My Computer.
14. If the required component is not installed, select option: Run from My Computer.

STEPS Attach F9 v5 in Excel 2007
3. If F9 is not displayed, you will need to attach the F9 COM Add-In component:
a. Click the Microsoft Office Button , and then click Excel Options.
b. Click Add-Ins:

4. For F9 formulas to work, the F9 Automation Add-In component needs to be attached.
a. Click the Microsoft Office Button , and then click Excel Options.
b. Click Add-Ins
c. At the bottom of the window, choose Excel Add-Ins and click on Go button:
d. In the Add-Ins window, Select Automation and within the Automation Servers
window, click on the letter F to quickly scroll down rows to the F9 Add-In. Select
F9v5.Connect and OK.
Please note that on some operating systems like Windows Vista when selecting
F9v5.Connect you can get following message:

5. The next time when you start Excel, F9 will attach automatically.
6. In addition, within Excel Options Add-Ins, F9 will now be listed under Active Applications Add-
ins.

STEPS - F9 Setup to Access Professional

Because F9 has not yet accessed your GL data, the Company Dropdown list will likely be blank.
3. In a subdirectory that contains company data, choose your Demo file and click Open.
F9 will then attempt to access all companies available in the system. If successful, you will see your
list of companies appear in the F9 Company Dropdown list.
If you see your company information, then F9 has successfully accessed your data. Click OK to
exit Setup.

STEPS Login as Non-Administrator
As a final step, ensure F9 is properly running for applicable users, if required
1. Logout as Administrator
2. Login as a regular user with less rights
3. Open Excel
4. A one-time step is to attach the Automation component of the F9 Add-In
5. Run F9 Setup and other menu items to ensure F9 is working
Additional security may already be active or necessary for users running Excel 2007. In this case, one
may experience warnings or problems attaching F9v5 as a non-administrator.
If this is the first time F9 Version 5 has been attached within Excel 2007, additional settings may or
may not be required for F9 to work properly depending on the type of user rights and security setup.
This may occur when updating the F9 Financial Entity file via Maintain Financial Entities and
permission errors display.
1. Using Windows Explorer, right-click the C:\F9V5 folder and click Properties

Trusted Locations:
1. Click the Microsoft Office Button , and then click Excel Options.
3. Click on Trusted Locations, then Add New Location and browse to the F9v5 folder. Also
include the sub-folder option.
F9 Digital Signature:
Install the F9 digital signature to then use the Excel Trusted Publisher settings.
1. Close Excel.

4. Select tab: Digital Signatures.
5. Click Details.

7. Click Install Certificate to have an Import Wizard display.

Attach F9 as a Trusted Publisher:
1. Close Excel and open it again, you will have to auto attach F9 one more time. Go to Excel
Options /Add-Ins / Manage Automation Add-ins / Go...
2. You may get a warning message. Click on the button to Enable all code published with this
publisher to add F9 to Trusted Publishers:
3. The next time Excel loads, you should no longer see a warning by Excel.
Macro Settings:
2. F9 is working properly with Macro Settings for: (Default) Disable all macros with notification and
Disable all macros except digitally signed macros:

STEPS - Activation and Deactivation of F9
1. Activation
Activate F9v5
1. Open Excel 2007.
2. At the F9 Trial screen, click Activate F9.
(This can also be invoked from the F9 Ribbon by selecting: License Manager, Activate F9)
Notes:
o Once activated, the F9 30-day Trial screen no longer displays when F9 attaches to Excel.

2. Deactivation
Deactivate F9v5
1. Open Excel 2007.
2. From the F9 Ribbon select: License Manager, Deactivate F9.
5. Close Excel.

Notes:
o Once deactivated, the customer should uninstall F9 on the deactivated machine and install F9 at
the new location.
o The same F9 serial number can then be used to activate their license on the new machine.
o If a user opens Excel and tries to now run F9 on the deactivated machine, the following screen
will appear:
