Senior Project Log
July
7/7116: 2 hours and 30 min: Talked with my mentor and discussed different ways to
produce a play ad how to set up a story. Outlined different plots and choose one that fit
best for the type of show I wanted to produce. Began writing first dratt of the story. Then
proceeded to start the script.
7/17/16: 1 hour: More writing of the script using my plot of the storyline as a guide |
changed some of the directions the characters went in such as Prince Charming who
was initially going to like to dress up in drag turned out to just think Cinderella was hot
because it fit in better with the story.
7/20/16: 1 hour: More writing of the script. Finished the initial draft so | focused on fine
tuning the story making sure it was in the correct format and that all character changes
had enough development, \

August
8/3/16: 1 hour: More editing including adding in more substantial and obnoxious
personalities for my Cinderella and Prince Charming using my mentor’s suggestion of
Griselda fixing their miscommunication problems as her first good deed and make it an
accident because the characters were just annoying Griselda.
8/9/16: 4 hour: Again focusing on fine tuning all character development such as
Griselda having more depth as a parent and the best friend character, Blossom, having
more of a differentiation from the main character by making her quirkier and more
unique.

October:
10/10/16: 1 hour: Final edits. Added in a foot fetish for the King but I didn’t like it so!
went back and erased it so that he was less creepy.
10/18/16; 1 hour and 20 min: wrote audition flyer and sign up sheets. Picked the day for
auditions.
10/17/16: 20 min: Spoke to the two Theater Essentials classes and my Play Production
class about my aucitions and my play asking them if they could go and hyping up my
production. Answered any questions they might have.
10/ 20/16: 2 hours: Held auditions after school and finally got to see a visualization of
my characters and story! More than twenty people auditioned and | have twelve
characters in my play.10/ 21/ 16: 15 min: Continued auditions for those who contacted me and told me they
were unavailable the day before,
10/ 22/ 16: 1 hour: Narrowed down the list of people and cut out to the most likelys and
the definitely yes. Figured out where to put each person in what part. Cut more people
which was super difficult and | had my cast>
10/23/16: 20 min: Reached out to my new cast found their contact info and notified them
that they had a role.
10/24/16: 40 min: Two people dropped out of my show due to conflicts and | had to
recast them. | contacted my friend to see if you could take over from the boy and
decided on a different actress who had aucitioned for the other role. Set about contact,
them and asking them if they could do it. Both new additions agreed.

11/10/16: 3 hours: Did a read through with most of the cast and provided snacks, The
cast became more familiar with each other and got to help them with characterization

December:
12/ 18/16: 2 hours and 15 minutes: Started blocking the play with the actors, allowing
them to communicate with me what they thought their actions should be and then either
agreeing or disagreeing on what to do. Worked primarily on Prince Charming owning
the stage and Cinderella adding certain inflections where | wanted them.
12/ 23/ 16: Blocked the fourth scene and worked with the actors on softening their
character for the King and owning their character for the Queen. All of them were happy
to do what | asked and working with them was wonderful.

January:
1/6/17: 3 hours: Shopped for the props to make the wands and worked on prepping
them for the actors to decorate themselves, The actors came over and picked the wand
they wanted based on their character, and my direction, and proceeded to paint them
and put sparkles on the with their character's personality in mind. All of the wands
tumed out beautiful.4/19/17: 30 min: Worked with Elaina and Mary on blocking the first scene as | had
previously not been able to work with Elaina. Didn't use full props but we stil blocked
cout where they were going to move and how it would work.
1/20/17: 15 min: Went over with my dad what I wanted him to do for the poster he was
creating for my show, Brainstormed ideas and lent him a copy of the script to use for
reference.
4/22/17: 2 hours: Ran through the whole show adding more characterization and did
more fine tuning. Still didn’t have full props.
1/25/17: 15 min: Finalized the changes my dad made to the poster and added guidance
for what | wanted the poster to look like trying to illustrate the feeling of my play.
1/30/17: 2 hours: Blocked the final scene for the first time with Elaina who had never
been there previously. Used more props throughout the play including Prince
Charming’s sword, Cinderella's shoe, Griselda’s staff, and all the wands.
4/31/17: 30 min: Received the finished posters from my dad and proceeded to hang
them around the school to advertise.

February:
2/2/17: 35 min: Began costuming the cast with the help of Ryan Bermont. Went through
different clothing in the Black Box to find pieces that would fit and not be too tacky.
2/5/17: 1 hour: Consulted with my Dad on what | wanted the prop pumpkin to look like
and how it had to be able to hold Cinderella's wait and move on and off stage so we
settled on a skateboard with an apple box on it and a painted cut out of a pumpkin
attached to the side. Worked on the final scene with the most of the cast on the
Amphitheater at school, finally got to teach Jack his blocking for that scene,
2/11/17: 2 hours: Went to Michaels and Party City to get some of the costumes. | got
fake flowers to weave into the fairy's outtits, ribbons for the Queen and Cinderella, 2
crown for the King, and a witch hat for the lead that |’m going to decorate with sparkies
and ribbons.
2/14/17: 1 hour and 30 min: Went through the whole show one time. Cast wasn't fully off
book yet so | had them improv if they forgot lines which made the run through take
forever. Blocking and character wasn't perfect yet either so I had to help people with
inflection and body positions. Full props and costumes weren't used so that was also
harder for the actors. Elaina kept forgetting her lines so the last scene took about thirty
minutes to get through.
2/18/17: 3 hours and 30 min: Had my one and only tech rehearsal which means it was,
the first time my cast worked on the stage they were using for the show, it was also their
first time running the show with costumes and full props. Some of the props like thechocolate bar and Griselda's staff weren't there because I forgot them but it was still
more props than the cast had ever used before. It was also new for me because | had to.
be on top of sound cues and lighting, anything that tech covered, and communicate to
them what | wanted. We went through the show three times, each time | would critique
them so they could enhance on their character and make their movements less
awkward, By the third run through | was confident that the play had pulled together and
would be presentable the next day.
2/16/17; 3 hours and 30 min: Day of the show! Wrote my thank you speech so | could
introduce my play later and put it on a notecard to reference. Showed up at call time
and helped my cast costume themselves and put on makeup, showered Cinderella and
two of the fairies in sparkles. Warmed up with my cast right before the doors opened.
Took pictures with them, Did my speech and then | watched my show. A couple times
people forgot their lines but they picked it up and everything was fine. It was so
wonderful to watch the play actually take place and all of my cast came so far since the
very first rehearsal. Striked the stage and took all my sets and costumes to the car.
Then | had a cast party at Cold Stone so I could celebrate with my cast the success of
the show. I'm so proud of them.
