Case description

A Survey has been conducted regarding the

higher education in MBA in the Asian region.

Here are some findings after the survey:

The no of applicants for MBA courses at

Asia-Pacific Schools continues to increase

about 30% a year.

In 1997, the 74 business schools in the

Asia Pacific region reported a record of


170,000 applicants for the 11,000 full

time MBA degrees to be awarded in 1999.

Courses in these schools are notoriously

tough and include Economics, Banking,

Marketing, Behavioral Sciences etc.

The survey reveals a detailed report

regarding taking into account various

criteria.

Objectives of the Case Study

1. Comments/Interpretations on the

variables and resulting insights on the

Asia-pacific business schools.

2. Summarization of data to compare

a. Local and Foreign tuition costs.

b. Mean starting salaries and work-

experience
c.Starting salaries and English tests

d. Relation between starting salaries

and tuition.

3. Graphical and Numerical summaries

based on the case.

The Indian Institute of Management Calcutta

extremes.

The mean full-time enrollment is 164 students.

A standard deviation of 143 indicates that the

full-time enrollment clusters within 143 students

around the mean of 164 students.

As expected, the mean tuition is greater for

foreign students. The mean difference is $17,215

- $ 13,170 = $4,045 per year.

The difference between local and foreign tuition

fees is maximum for Lahore University of

Management Studies.

Interpretation on age

Most of the students are in the age-group of 25-

30.
The mean age is 28.69 years and median age is

29. This indicates a substantial number of older

students are in the programs.

We can also say from the age-group that more

than fifty percent of the MBA students must be

having work-experience.

Starting salaries
The mean starting salary is $37,292 and the

median starting salary is $41,400.

Starting salary ranges from only $7,000 for four

schools to a high of $87,000 at the International

University of Japan.
