PROGRAM:

Canteen and library building for the LiangMeng school complex

BACKGROUND:

The LiangMeng Primary school faces a beautiful valley located in the rural area of Puan City, China. It is connected
by a 4 hours drive to the provincial capital Guyiang. The whole region is home to many Chinese ethnic groups, but
the one that inhabits this underdeveloped rural area is known as the BUYI minority. Their economy is mainly based
on agricolture and mining and it has been slightly improved by the construction of logistic infrastructures after 1949.
Even if their daily life is partially modernized, their culture is still influenced by ancient traditions and activities.
TASK:

You are requested to conceive and design a canteen and library building of 100 m2 that will serve the LiangMeng
school complex. Please be aware that this is a project in a underdevelopt part of China, so those functions can be
solved in a very rudimetary and pragmatic way. The project must respect the following guidelines:

1 Your building design must not exceed 100 m2 area

2 Your building design must not extend beyond the boundaries shown in the area of the cad file

3 Your building design should be maximum 2 stories high.

4 The space should accommodate the needs of the 200 primary school children of the school.

5 Rough estimation for the construction cost is 1000 Chinese Yuan per sqm. Therefore for a 100m2 building, it
would be 100.000 Chinese Yuan (14.500 USD).

6 EVERY DESIGN ENTRY MUST TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THE FEASABILITY AND THE REALITY OF
CONSTRUCTION SINCE THE WINNING PROPOSAL WILL BE BUILT.

EVALUATION:

Your competition entry will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

FEASIBILITY - The project must be designed to ensure its future construction from a structural and economical
perspective.

SPATIAL CONCEPT - The proposal should express a strong spatial and compositional sensibility.

CONTEXT - The project must find a coherent relation with the site, the users and the given program.

REPRESENTATION - The idea should be clear and well represented in order to be evaluated in a short time by the jury.

JURY:
