INTERNSHIP PLAN

Scott Roper

Michigan Standard I Visionary Leadership


Goal Develop my leadership skills by working collaboratively with principals and teacher
leaders on understanding the collection, interpretation, and analysis of new data sets to
improve student achievement.

Activity (Leadership) I will develop and grow our partnership with SchoolRise
consulting to assist our work on developing a universal data protocol.

Activity (Participation) I will engage with principals and teacher leaders on developing
and implementing a universal data protocol across the district.

Timeline The implementation and support for this goal will occur throughout the school
year.

Support Needed The district will continue to provide budgetary support to


compensate the data advisors with with a stipend and hire subs for the days that the
teacher leaders will be out of the classroom in workshop sessions. My mentor will serve
as reviewer of the process providing input and feedback.

Michigan Standard II Cultural & Instructional Leadership


Goal Develop and increase the leadership capacity of district principals and data
advisors (teacher leaders) through the support of new school improvement focus on data
analysis.

Activity (Leadership) I will take reponsibility of communicating roles, responsibilities,


and other critical information with principals and data advisors.

Activity (Participation) I will organize, facilitate, and collaboratively participate in the


district-led workshops with principals and data advisors.

Timeline These activities will occur through the 2016 2017 and 2017 2018 school
years.

Support Needed The district will continue to provide budgetary support to compensate
the data advisors with with a stipend and hire subs for the days that the teacher leaders

the process providing input and feedback.
Michigan Standard III Management of Organization, Operation, & Resources
Goal Increase my understanding of the Superintendents role in overseeing and
managing the business and operations of the school district.

Activity (Participation) I will meet with the Superintendent twice a month to review
ongoing progress and challenges with the management of the districts budget, facilities,
and relations with union leadership.

Activity (Observation) I will study and observe financial and facility updates at monthly
school board meetings.

Timeline These activities will occur throughout the school year.

Support Needed My mentor will serve as a resource of information on these important


topics. He will provide me with the opportunity to engage in dialogue and provide input
about the districts direction.

Michigan Standard IV Collaboration w/Faculty, Community Members, & Families


Goal Increase my knowledge of the new system of student, faculty, and parent surveys
in AdvancED in preparation for our districts systems accreditation visit in February
2017.

Activity (Participant) I will particpate in an AdvancED training sessions in October


2016.

Activity (Leadership) I will lead the principals in developing a process of implentation of


the new AdvancED surveys across the district.

Timeline This process will take place between October 2016 January 2017.

Support Needed The district will support of budget to cover costs of AdvancED
training. My mentor will serve as a reviewer of the process providing input and feedback.
Michigan Standard V Ethics, Integrity, Fairness, & Practice
Goal I will continue to promote collaborative decision-making that reflects ethical
practices and supports the success of all students.

Activity (Leadership) Through my facilitation of meetings, I will promote healthy and


appropriate decisions at our districts month Admin PLC meetings and weekly technology
update meetings.

Activity (Leadership) I will provide follow-up and support of decisions made at the
district-led meetings.

Timeline These activities will occur throughout the school year.

Support Needed The district will continue to support my leadership of monthly Admin
PLC meetings and weekly technology meetings.

Michigan Standard VI Student Success by Understanding, Responding to, & Advocating


for Student Learning
Goal As member of the Oakland Schools Teaching and Learning Council, I will continue
to advocate for our students and influence statewide decisions that may impact our
ability to promote increased learning.

Activity (Leadership) I will represent Holly Area Schools with at monthly countywide
teaching and learning meetings to better understand and respond to state legislation that
can affect our local district.

Activity (Participant) I will engage countywide colleagues in dialogue about ways we can
advocate for our students and teachers.

Timeline These activities will occur throughout the school year.

Support Needed The district will continue to support my participation at monthly


Teaching and Learning Council meetings at Oakland Schools.
Michigan Standard VII Substantial & Sustained Educational Leadership Internship
Experience
Goal Actively engage and perform the content knowledge of Standards 1 6 in my role
of Assistant Superintendent, overseeing many district initatives.

Activity (Leadership) I will maintain consistent dialogue with my mentor about my


participation in activities supporting Standards 1 6.

Activity (Leadership) I will collect input and reflect on input from my mentor (current
Superintendent of Holly Area Schools.

Timeline These activities will occur throughout the school year.

Support Needed My mentor will serve as reviewer of the process providing input and
feedback.
