I love how transparent you are with the students. You start out and
begin with Ive planned a great lesson for you- so pay attention and
enjoy it! haha! Nice. You have no qualms about asking the students
to buy in to your lesson. I think transparency is a good thing.
Students like it when youre honest with them.

Nice Q and A to introduce the lesson. Does anyone know why ?

Does anyone know where.? Whether you realize it or not- you are
assessing their current knowledge. This is important so that you can
know where to go from there. It gives students a connecting point to
the new info that youre giving them.

Students were VERY attentive to you and your lesson. You do well with
lecture and telling the story. Lecture gets a bad wrap. Yet- I feel
there is a time and place for it. Also- an interesting lecturer is just as
engaging as any other form of content delivery!

Youre do well with questioning and not moving forward until youve
asked if there are any questions from the students. If not- you move
on. These check points through the lesson are needed and well-
thought out.

I know you feel that you may nit teach after school, but rather go to
grad school- but you sure do know how to work a classroom. You seem
comfortable in front of a class and your love of the material translates
to students. I like that you did not allow anyone to have anonymity in
class. While you may not know all their names, You didnt continue to
allow the same people to answer over and over again. Instead, you
started saying Lets hear from someone else. And I would like to
hear an answer from this side of the room.

I think its funny that you had the revelation during class not to require
students to write the entire amendment. Thats fine! Realizing these
things in class, adjusting, and moving forward is what teaching is all
about. It actually is very true to the nature of a teacher to change
something and be flexible. Many beginning teachers actually struggle
with changing their plans on the fly. In fact- Ive students struggle to
make the students and time frame meet their lesson plan when the
actuality is that you need to change and adjust to meet THEIR needs.

Social Studies is a tough topic to discuss when it comes hiding/giving

your opinion. You did a great job staying neutral and mucking up the
content with your biases.
I am fine with you asking Mr. Ingram questions in class. Hes here, use
him as an asset in class. He has much more experience than you in
the field. HOWEVER- Keep in mind- one day you will have to
answer/field these questions on your own. Think about how youll
answer students who have questions that you dont know how to
answer.

TIP: Think out how youll do group work ahead of time. Silly as it may
sound, this is one of the main things I discuss with new teachers/
interns. We waste so much class time on who is in what group? Its a
easy time-sucker. If youre going to let them decide and choice their
own groups- let them! Or say You have 1 minute to put yourselves into
groups. If there is an issue or problem- Ill make them myself. This
gives incentive to group up quickly and effectively.
