Grade One: Math Lesson Plan #8

Activity: Cut and Paste Worksheet

Goals/Key questions
Goals: The ability to do addition equations with a max sum of 24 by the
connection to counting by ones (adding)
This lesson will meet the overall goal by:
Reiterating what we have learned so far and how to use each tool to do
simple addition
Asking for volunteers to answer questions that are written on the whiteboard
by using any of their addition tools
Create questions themselves so they can visualize what it looks like in both a
numerical and material sense
Creating equations and solving them themselves when completing the
worksheet

Objective (connected to PofS): Students will have a deeper understanding of

how to do addition by seeing material objects take form in a
number (ie. Ten flower pictures = 10). Although the addition
tools might still be needed the students have clearly been
developing number sense and this exercise will connect how an
amount of something can be depicted by a number correlating
with GLO 1 Develop Number Sense.
General Outcome: Develop number sense and simple addition
Specific Outcome 1: Say the number sequence 0 to 100 by:
1s forward between any two given numbers (1 and 30)
Add any two digits to find the correct sum using digits on the number line
between 1 and 15, so no numbers = more than 30 (end of their number line)

Pre lesson Considerations

Lesson overview of main ideas to be learned and prelearning required:
Most students know how to count from 1 to 20 but few can backwards from 20 to 1
Materials needed/preset up required/logistical considerations needed
(seating arrangement):

Worksheet:

24 copies of cut and paste addition worksheet and 24 pieces of

construction paper
