Welcome to Calaveras Big Trees State Park. In order to better serve you, we are providing
the following information. It should make your stay safer and more enjoyable.
VISITOR CENTER The Visitor
Center operates on a regular
schedule. Summer: daily 10:00 a.m.
to 4:00 p.m. Off-season: weekends
only, 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
FEES The camping fee pays for
one motor vehicle and a maximum
of eight (8) people at each site.
Any additional vehicles will be
charged a fee. If extra vehicles will
not fit at the campsite parking space,
they must be parked in designated
extra vehicle parking areas.
CHECK-OUT TIME Check-out
time is promptly at noon. Please let
us know when your campsite is
vacant. If you wish to extend your
stay, you may re-register at the
Entrance Station after 10:00 a.m.
as long as space is available. If you
would like to stay in the park later
than noon on your check-out day,
you must vacate your campsite and
move to one of the day-use areas.
QUIET HOURS Quiet hours are
from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
Radios and other sound-producing
devices must not be audible
beyond your immediate campsite,
regardless of the time of day.
Generators may only be used from
10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
MESSAGES Post all messages on
the message board at the park
entrance.
FIRES Fires must be confined to
either stoves provided by the park,
or in metal containers off the ground.
Fires are not allowed in makeshift
rock fire rings, on tables, or on the
ground. Purchase firewood at the
Entrance Station. All natural
materials in the park are protected by
law, so please do not gather wood,
pine needles, pine cones or twigs.
You may make camping reservations up to seven months and no less than 48 hours in advance by calling
1-800-444-7275 (TTY 1-800-274-7275). Reservations may be charged to your VISA®, Discover® or MasterCard®.

HIKING TRAILS Several
interesting hiking trails have their
own brochures at the trailhead. An
overall map/brochure is available at
the Entrance Station or Visitor
Center.
INTERPRETIVE PROGRAMS
Throughout the summer months,
we provide regularly scheduled
interpretive programs for your
interest and enjoyment. Activities
include campfire programs, guided
walks and Junior Rangers.
BIKING Bicycles are not allowed
on the trails, but are allowed on
paved roads and fire roads. Bike,
skateboard and scooter riders under
18 years of age must wear helmets.
MOTORIZED VEHICLES
Motorized vehicles are not
permitted on trails or fireroads. All
vehicles and operators must be
licensed for the street. California
helmet laws apply to motorcycles,
motor-driven cycles and motorized
bicycles. Passengers in the back of
open bed pickup trucks are
required to wear seat belt restraint
devices.
SPEED LIMITS Speed limits are
posted and strictly enforced.
Remember, children and adults
frequently cross the roadways.
Please drive carefully.
ANIMALS Bears, raccoons, and
squirrels are native to this area and
commonly visit the campgrounds.
In order to better protect you, them,
and your food, we require that you
keep food and coolers in the trunk
of your car, or in the lockers
provided, except when you are
preparing food. Please DO NOT
FEED the animals.
Reservations for Camping
BEAR WARNING Bears may
come into the campground at any
time, day or night. Please lock all of
your food in the bear resistant food
locker at all times, except when
actually preparing food or eating. Do
not keep food in your tent, sleeping
area or in exposed ice chests. Place
all waste in dumpsters as soon as
possible. Improper food storage
could result in a citation, with a
maximum fine of $1,000 and/or
ejection from the park. California
Code of Regulations 4323(b)
DOGS Dogs must be leashed and
controlled at all times. They must
be inside a tent or vehicle at night.
Dogs are permitted on paved
roads, fire roads, day use areas
and in camp-grounds, but
prohibited from the five (5)
developed trails. Do not leave your
dog unattended at the campsite.
HOOKUPS There are no R.V.
hookups at the campsites; do not
attempt to connect hoses to park
faucets. You may refill water tanks
at the sanitation station.
WASTE WATER Collect waste
water from dishwashing, trailer, or
R.V. drains. Dispose of it in any
restroom toilet or at the sanitation
station near the Visitor Center.
RESPECT PARK PROPERTY
Please respect the tables, posts,
and trees and do not cut, carve or
drive nails into them.
