There are roughly 2,350 verses concerning money

Thats twice as many as faith and prayer combined
16 of the 38 parables were concerned with how to
handle money and possessions.
15% of everything Jesus said related to money and
possessions.
Jesus spoke about money and possessions more than
heaven and hell combined.
IN GOD WE TRUST

The only thing Jesus

speaks about more
than money is
the Kingdom.

6 So Moses gave command, and word was proclaimed

throughout the camp, Let no man or woman do
anything more for the contribution for the sanctuary.
So the people were restrained from bringing,
7 for the material they had was sucient
to do all the work, and more.

Exodus 36:67
IN THE NEW TESTAMENT

13 In speaking of a new covenant,

he makes the first one obsolete.
And what is becoming obsolete and growing old
is ready to vanish away.

Hebrews 8:13
When Jesus died on the cross,
He fulfilled the requirements of the Law
and made the mandatory tithe obsolete.

To continue to insist that it is still in effect is to

invalidate, at least in part, the sacrifice of Christ
and return to the OT idea of justification
by works and law-keeping.

Hebrews 7:1-10 Melchizedek

23 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you
tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the
weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and
faithfulness. These you ought to have done, without
neglecting the others.
Matthew 23:23

42 But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and
every herb, and neglect justice and the love of God. These
you ought to have done, without neglecting the others.
Luke 11:42
Parable of The Pharisee and the Tax Collector
9 He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that
they were righteous, and treated others with contempt: 10 Two
men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a
tax collector. 11 The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thus:
God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust,
adulterers, or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week; I
give tithes of all that I get. 13 But the tax collector, standing far
o, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast,
saying, God, be merciful to me, a sinner! 14 I tell you, this man
went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For
everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who
humbles himself will be exalted.
Luke 18:12
The Priestly Order of Melchizedek
7 For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most
High God, met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the
kings and blessed him, 2 and to him Abraham apportioned a
tenth part of everything. He is first, by translation of his
name, king of righteousness, and then he is also king of
Salem, that is, king of peace. 3 He is without father or
mother or genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor
end of life, but resembling the Son of God he continues a
priest forever.

Hebrews 7:1-3
The New Testament church, from what we can tell, continued giving
towards the ministry of Christian leaders and the poor, but not through
festivals or special oerings for the house of God. Their giving towards
the ministry of Christian leaders was almost entirely done at a local
church level, with the believers contributing financially to the needs of
those who served them in the gospel (1 Cor 9:8-14), taught them doctrine
(Gal 6:6) and governed them as elders, especially those who preached
and taught (1 Tim 5:17-18). Giving to the poor was both done ad hoc (Acts
4:34-37) and as part of larger and more organised oerings amongst the
churches (most obviously the oering for the poor in Jerusalem). Both
were coordinated by the apostles, and it is worth pointing out that this
(giving to the poor) is the context of the oft-quoted reference to laying
money at the apostles feet. Other than that, we have almost no
evidence of the early Jesus-followers giving financially. Andrew Wilson
GENEROSITY IN THE NT

1 Corinthians 16:1-2 Collection for the Saints

Acts 11:27-0 Contribution for famine relief

2 Corinthians 9:7 Not grudgingly or under

compulsion

Generosity
Collection for the Saints
1 Now concerning the collection for the saints:
as I directed the churches of Galatia, so you also are to do.
2 On the first day of every week, each of you is to put
something aside and store it up, as he may prosper,
so that there will be no collecting when I come.
1 Corinthians 16:1-2
The Cheerful Giver

7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart,

not reluctantly or under compulsion,
for God loves a cheerful giver.

God is able to make all grace abound to you,

so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times,
you may abound in every good work.

2 Corinthians 9:7-8
Contribution for Famine Relief

27 Now in these days prophets came down from Jerusalem to

Antioch. 28 And one of them named Agabus stood up and
foretold by the Spirit that there would be a great famine over
all the world (this took place in the days of Claudius). 29 So
the disciples determined, every one according to his ability,
to send relief to the brothers living in Judea. 30 And they did
so, sending it to the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.

Acts 11:27-30
Encouragement to Give Generously

We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been
given among the churches of Macedonia, 2 for in a severe test of
aiction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have
overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. 3 For they gave
according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of
their own accord, 4 begging us earnestly for the favour of taking part in
the relief of the saints 5 and this, not as we expected, but they gave
themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us. 6
Accordingly, we urged Titus that as he had started, so he should
complete among you this act of grace. 7 But as you excel in everything
in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in our love
for yousee that you excel in this act of grace also.
8 I say this not as a command, but to prove by the earnestness of others
that your love also is genuine. 9 For you know the grace of our Lord
Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor,
so that you by his poverty might become rich. 10 And in this matter I
give my judgement: this benefits you, who a year ago started not only to
do this work but also to desire to do it. 11 So now finish doing it as well,
so that your readiness in desiring it may be matched by your
completing it out of what you have. 12 For if the readiness is there, it is
acceptable according to what a person has, not according to what he
does not have. 13 For I do not mean that others should be eased and
you burdened, but that as a matter of fairness 14 your abundance at the
present time should supply their need, so that their abundance may
supply your need, that there may be fairness. 15 As it is written,
Whoever gathered much had nothing left over, and whoever gathered
little had no lack. 2 Corinthians 8:1-15
PURPOSE OF GIVING IN NT

To Glorify God in:

1. Funding Missions (Lost)

2. Meeting each others needs Acts 2

3. Meeting the needs of the poor (Least)

4. Meeting the needs of Ministry Teams / Staff

GRACE GIVING IS NOT:

1. Random and irresponsible Planned and

Systematic (1 Cor. 16:2; 2 Cor. 9:7).

2. Based on feelings Based on Faith

3. Usually less than 10% Grace motivates us to

excel far more than the minimum (1 Cor. 15:10).

4. Giving God the leftovers

GRACE GIVING IS:
1. Anonymous Matthew 6:2-4

2. Cheerful 2 Cor 9:6-8; 2 Cor 8:3-4

3. Expectant 2 Cor 9:6; Prov 19:17; Mat 19:21

4. Voluntary 2 Cor 9:7; 2 Cor 8:3-4

5. Sacrificial Mark 12:41-44

6. Proportional Deut 16:17; 1 Cor 16:1-2; 2 Cor 8:12

THE MOTIVATION FOR GIVING

1. Example of Jesus He gave everything!

2 Corinthians 8:8-15

2. Command of Jesus John 15:12-13

8 I say this not as a command, but to prove by the earnestness of others
that your love also is genuine. 9 For you know the grace of our
Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he
became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich. 10
And in this matter I give my judgement: this benefits you, who a year
ago started not only to do this work but also to desire to do it. 11 So
now finish doing it as well, so that your readiness in desiring it may be
matched by your completing it out of what you have. 12 For if the
readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what a person has, not
according to what he does not have. 13 For I do not mean that others
should be eased and you burdened, but that as a matter of fairness 14
your abundance at the present time should supply their need, so that
their abundance may supply your need, that there may be fairness. 15 As
it is written, Whoever gathered much had nothing left over, and
whoever gathered little had no lack. 2 Corinthians 8:8-15
12 This is my commandment, that you love one another
as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this,
that someone lay down his life for his friends.

John 15:12-13
George Muller is remembered as a man who received
millions of dollars to support his orphanage, in response
to secret prayer, without making any needs known to
others. What many dont know is that Muller gave away
vast amounts to the Lords work out of funds that were
given for his personal support. From 1870 on, he
personally contributed the full support for about 20
missionaries with the China Inland Mission. From
1831-1885, he gave away 86 percent of his personal
income! As the Lord prospered him, he could have lived
in style. But he lived simply and gave away the rest.

No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the
one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and
despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

Matthew 6:24
IN GOD WE TRUST

But if anyone has the worlds goods and sees his brother in
need, yet closes his heart against him, how does Gods love
abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk
but in deed and in truth. By this we shall know that we are
of the truth and reassure our heart before him
