Welcome to Ms. Browns Biology Class
There are many biological issues facing us today, and it increases everyday
through the lack of knowledge our young people have about the basics of biological
sciences. In this class, you will learn the fundamentals of biology, real life applications,
and issues our society are facing today. You will be learning by problem solving, inquiry,
scientific skills, laboratory techniques, presentation skills, teamwork, class discussions,
and scientific writing. I am excited to have you all in my class this year!

My goal is to inspire, motivate, and provide a safe and fun learning environment!

First Term - introduction of biology, biochemistry, cells, immunology, and

photosynthesis/cellular respiration

Second Term - Growth and Development, DNA and protein synthesis,

genetics/genetic engineering, the diversity of life (evolution), and ecology

Recommended Materials

3-ringed Binder
Spiral Notebook (College Ruled)
Pen, pencil, and colored pencils
Highlighters (3 different colors)
Graph paper/lined paper
Manual pencil sharpener
Pencil pouch for everything
above
Ruler
Classwork
There will be regular homework assignments, projects, and lab reports throughout

nightly basis.

Late work: I am only allowing 5 assignments to be turned in late with no penalty. No

penalty is given when the assignment is turned in the following school day and can only be
used on one assignment at a time.

Passes will be stamped when shown to the teacher

Passes cannot be used if lost or misplaced
Late passes cannot be used on projects, papers, or lab
reports
Cannot be used for extra credit assignments

Cheating: is NOT ACCEPTABLE in this class will result in a zero on the assignment, a
written referral for academic dishonesty, and an academic dishonesty contract. (Refer to the
Academic Honesty Policy passed out on Day 1)

Test and Quizzes : will be announced in advance so students will have time to review
notes and study

*Note: If student is absent for an exam or quiz, they will either take the exam or quiz
the day they return to class. If a student has prior knowledge of an absence (i.e.
doctors appointment, vacation, etc.) student can take the exam or quiz before
hand.

Attendance and Make Up Work
Attendance is mandatory!!

Attendance: is mandatory! If absent, a note is needed from a parent to qualify as an

excused absence. Too many absences will result in deduction of points, a letter home from the
teacher, then from the school, and finally from the school district.

Please do not miss class!

Make Up Work: can be used when illness or emergency occurs. Not knowing that the
assignment was due will not constitute an opportunity for make up work.

Please keep checking the website for a list of your assignments and due dates.

Tardies: a student is tardy when they are not in their seat and ready to work by
the time the bell rings.

Reflection

The process of creating the syllabus was eye opening because I did not realize how much
work and thought went into each syllabi created. However, I did have a good time
creating this one because I was envisioning my future classroom and my future students.
I was also pretty excited about the topics I will be teaching and how I will be teaching
them. As of now, my role in the classroom is a co-teacher, where I am part of the teaching
process and in class support. In addition, because of my role, I think the challenges the
class will face will be organization and re-establishing authority. However, the class will
benefit from having two teachers by getting extra attention, quick answers, and more
support.
