BPM and BPI Differences

Many people confuse Business process management (BPM-Business Process Management) with
initiatives of Business process improvement (BPI Business Process Improvement). BPI
initiatives typically involve projects or a set of improvements at once on the redesign or adjust
processes. Common methodologies of BPI include Six Sigma, Lean, Total Quality Management
(TQM-Total Quality Management) or reengineering efforts style Michael Hammer. BPM,
otherwise, implies a permanent and continuous organizational commitment to manage processes
of the organization. Includes a set of activities, such as modeling, analysis, design, purposeful
and intentional, performance measurement and transformation processes. Involves a continuity,
an endless feedback loop to ensure that business processes are aligned with organizational
strategies and expected performance.

The area of knowledge transformation involves changes in the business processes where
common methodologies of BPI can be applied. Typically, BPI focuses on specific improvements
or adjustments improvements in processes. However, the use of these methodologies of BPI does
not imply that the organization is committed to the practice of BPM.
