Your comments and suggestions are important tools for the improvement of our services and facilities. Please email us
at membership@tagaytayhighlands.com. Highlands View is published by the Tagaytay Highlands Clubs. The newsletter
is aimed at providing information and updates to our Club members and homeowners.
Warmest greetings to all our Members as we welcome another year! As we look
back in 2016, we celebrated several milestones in the Club. The Holy Family Chapel
has remained vibrant last Christmas season with famous choir groups gracing
our humble chapel with melodious yuletide songs. We are honored to have The
Most Reverend Reynaldo Evangelista, Bishop of Imus on our annual fiesta as we
commemorate the chapels 20 years in service with the Highlands community. Also,
Archbishop Ramon Arguelles of Lipa graced the 10th year of Madre de Dios and
blessed its first set of bells.

In its 19th year, the Presidents Cup went successfully well with the patronage of our
generous sponsors and loyal members. We made sure that all participants got cash
prizes. This has never been done before. Everybody is a winner here in Tagaytay
Highlands. I also extend my gratitude to Lexus Manila and Toyota Motor Philippines
for the three consecutive years of support.

Moreover, 2016 was a year we honored our beloved Belle Corporation Chairman, the
late Benito Tan Guat and wife Ng Siok Dee with a private mass attended by family,
closest friends and club employees. Their kindness will always be remembered.

With the past year behind us, let us not forget to thank the Lord for all the blessings
and guidance. Our past year would not have been good without Him and we
continuously hope for another brighter year ahead.

LUXURIES OF THE PALACE

C
lassical Chinese structures are built with an emphasis
on breadth and less on height. The horizontal
prominence of the structure stresses the visual
impact of the width. Such can be seen on monumental
imperial structures in Forbidden City. Opened in 1997, the
Highlands China Palace is an example of an affluent Chinese
architecture. Designed by Albert Kwan of Hong Kong,
the restaurant is an interesting reproduction of traditional
oriental design.

Based on the concepts of Feng Shui and Taoism, design and

construction are properly guided through ages. Imageries
of good fortune are crucial. Door gods and mythical
creatures on gateways and doors are placed to ward off
malevolent spirits and encourage protection and prosperity.
Fruits symbolizing wealth and fertility are also common
applications. It is auspicious to have the orientation of the
structure with its back on an elevated landscape and a body
of water in the front. Such can be seen in the faade of
Highlands China Palace. Foo Dogs or Chinese guardian lions
guard the gate and entrance while pomegranate rebuses are
visible decorative appliques on wooden beams. The restaurant
faces east with its back on Mt. Sungay and recreated coral
waterfall surrounds the driveway.

It has two outlets, the upper-level Spring Garden, and the lower level Winter
Garden. The Spring Garden is a hall benefiting majestic banquets good for
250 guests. Lofty red beams support the heavy roof structure. Structural
roof timbers and woodworks are displayed prominently tinged in black and
crimson. This is just an internal assembly supporting the heavy glazed tiles
outside. Sweeping roof tiles has a rising curvature at the corners. Tinted
green, the ceramic roof mimics the vibrant color of the bamboo, a symbol of
longevity. Golden yellow roofs in the Forbidden City are reserved only for the
emperor.

Fit for imperial service, the Winter Garden serves the best Cantonese cuisine
in Tagaytay. Three smaller private rooms are available: Shanghai, Beijing,
and Hong Kong Rooms. Choose from an array of dishes using the freshest
seafood, meats and vegetables. Have a taste of the Highlands Peking Duck,
pick from a variety of Sharks Fin and Abalone dishes, a selection of Hot
Pots, and a medley of familiar dim sums. Seasoned Hong Kong Chef, Patrick
Wong, goes around the dining hall greeting loyal member-patrons. They are
always treated with exceptional warmth and hospitality.

Why settle for something ordinary? Live like an emperor, create a feast,

COLOR OF THE SEASON
LUSH SPRING IN TAGAYTAY HIGHLANDS

T
op wedding stylist, Michael Badang Rueda, gives
Highlands View a fresh preview of 2017 trending table
styles. Everything is luxuriantly organic. Also, Greenery
is the seasons color according to Pantone Color Institute, a
leading authority on color trends. [It] is a fresh and zesty yellow-
green shade that evokes the first days of spring when natures
greens revive, restore and renew. Illustrative of flourishing foliage
and the lushness of the great outdoors, the fortifying attributes of
Greenery signals consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and
reinvigorate.

This trendy color tone can be matched with any neutrals for
a barn-style event, morning affairs at the garden, and even
paled vintage soirees. Amazingly, green is also compatible with
stronger colors for a vibrant tropical motif or a rustic Bohemian
flair. Ethereal forests and fairytale woods styles are still a
favorite trend.

Furthermore, Pantone declares, Greenery is natures neutral.

The more submerged people are in modern life, the greater their
innate craving to immerse themselves in the physical beauty
and inherent unity of the natural world. This shift is reflected
by the proliferation of all things expressive of Greenery in daily
lives through urban planning, architecture, lifestyle and design
choices globally. A constant on the periphery, Greenery is now
being pulled to the forefront - it is an omnipresent hue around
the world.

FOR THE PERFECT PHOTO SHOOT

T
agaytay Highlands has been a favorite location for photo shoots. It has become one of the top destinations for weddings and
prenuptial events. A place where earth meets the sky, Tagaytay Highlands horizon is always picture-perfect. The sprawling terrain
offers countless opportunities for the creative photographer. Secluded gardens and woods provide a backdrop for intimate frames.
Varying vantage points can create myriad angles. It is a piece of heaven on earth. Here are some of the well-loved sites:

THE GREEN WALL

The high wall covered in verdant vines is a signature look in

Tagaytay Highlands. Located in the east end of Pinecrest Village,
the wall has served as a classic set of creative shots.

Another favorite site is the Poolside of The Country Club. The

wooden walkways, water features, and the blossoming garden

the place.

THE ART OF MANNY BALDEMOR

R
enowned painter, sculptor and book illustrator, Manny
Baldemor, graced the walls of the Highlands Golf Club
with his vivid range of paintings for the yuletide season. It
starts with a star, said in the catalogue. In the darkest night, a star
shone brightly catching the attention of the magi from the East.
It led them to Bethlehem, the birthplace of holy infant child. With
this Christmas story, the star gained importance in the Christian
celebration.

In the Philippines, the star is the most enduring and iconic imagery
for Christmas. The Philippine Parol is one of the most time-honored
decorations. From the Spanish word farol or lantern, [it] decorated
Filipino households and guides villagers on the way to church
in time for the dark early morning Misa de Gallo. Its light leads
Sagrada Familia painting
parishioners to the church; it gives hope to dreams and shares a
feeling of warmth and comfort in the cold night.

Maligayang Pasko sa Tagaytay Highlands painting

Baldemors 32-piece exhibit is a collection of star-themed works starting from

1995 to present. Known for his simplified geometric landscape beaming with
folk vibe and innately Filipino flair, one can get a glimpse of his hometown,
Paete. Given the time frame covered by the collection, one can see the
progressing styles of his landscape abstraction filled with nipa huts, trees, farms,
processions , churches and of course, teeming with star lanterns.

One extraordinary piece mounted for the exhibit is the impressionist landscape
of Tagaytay Highlands bordered by his signature star rays radiating from the
periphery. It was said that the work was painted from the artists memory. He
was in Tagaytay Highlands twenty years ago at The Country Club in time for the
opening of the Holy Family Chapels first mass. The painting was immediately
sold on the first day of the exhibit along with other pieces.

Proceeds from the exhibit will benefit the Holy Family Chapels 2017 Outreach
Program. Every quarter, the chapel chooses an institution as a recipient. In 2016,
the Club supported the causes of Balay San Jose Foundation for the children
with cerebral palsy and home for the aged, as well the works of the Missionaries
of Charity sisters for the abandoned children. Without a doubt, the stellar
exhibit, entitled Stars of Good Blessings conveyed the brilliance of the Filipino
values and rejoiced to the blessing we call the Messiah.

The Renewal of Consecration of Tagaytay City to the Immaculate
Heart of Mary is a yearly event of Tagaytay Highlands with the
purpose of reaffirming our petition and call to the Blessed Mother
Mary. Through the blessing of Archbishop Ramon Arguelles of Lipa,
consecration is not just limited to the Club of Tagaytay Highlands

threat of the devil in destroying the Church, societies, and families
in our beloved city.
