Part B:

Registered Massage Therapist & Chiropractor:

Client Benefit: Often times Chiropractic care is used to treat long term or stiffening bone injuries,
however because our muscles have the capability to adapt and lengthen/shorten into new positions in
the body, they will often pull or drag their bony attachments back into an improper position, resulting
in reoccurring pain1. Working with both a Chiropractor and an RMT can address both the bone/nervous
and muscle/soft tissue issues simultaneously to help relieve pain at the root of the problem and
promote wellness and pain relief in the long term.

Professional Benefit: Joining both the expertise of Massage Therapists in soft tissue treatment, and
Chiropractors in skeletal and nerve treatment offers a complete and well-rounded plan of care that
addresses multiple body functions; this will result in greater results for patients and in turn better client
satisfaction for both practices.

Registered Massage Therapist & Physiotherapist:
Client Benefit: Although many treatments provided by RMTs and PTs are similar,
Physiotherapists are able to provide specializations in remedial exercise, diagnose certain bodily
dysfunctions, provide spinal manipulation and consult on medical equipment (braces, orthotics, handles,
specialized bathing units, etc.). Having these supports/equipment available for at home and everyday
uses can dramatically speed up the recovery time of both a Physiotherapy and Massage Therapy client.3
Alternatively, Massage Therapists specialize in soft tissue treatment and often provide a more relaxing
and less intimidating regimen for clients who may have experienced trauma or severe injury. Both
Health Professions are able to offer treatment plans that are suitable for a variety of clients, a
combination of both RMT and PT can result in a well-rounded circle of care and the possibility of a
quicker recovery.

Professional Benefit:
In addition to having access to different skill sets/knowledge, working closely with a Physiotherapist can
provide a professional relationship that can gain more clients and more results. For example,
Physiotherapy generally focuses on rehabilitation and strengthening, while Massage Therapy generally
focus on relieving pain. It may benefit an RMT and Physiotherapist to work in conjunction with one
another to either reduce pain/discomfort before referring to Physiotherapy, or vice versa.

Registered Massage Therapists & Registered Pharmacist:
Client Benefit: Massage therapy offers a pharmaceutical alternative for various conditions, which are
commonly treated with medication. For example, substituting an abdominal Massage for a laxative, a
Wellness Massage for an anxiety medication, or an Impairment Massage to treat pain/injury at the
source rather than treating the pain/symptoms afterwards. This can reduce client dependency on
medications and provide options for clients who cannot use traditional pharmaceutical methods due to
pregnancy, unwanted or serious side effects, or allergic reactions, etc.4.

Professional Benefit:
Working closely with a Registered Pharmacist can encourage a greater understanding of the delivery,
reason for use, and symptoms, and side effects of many medications that may be affecting Massage
Therapy clients. This may result in different techniques or modifications during the treatment. For

example, understanding the effects of certain blood thinners on certain clients and the implications this
may have including, bruising, light headedness, or even a stroke. Additionally, having a registered
Pharmacists work closely with an RMT can encourage referrals/pharmaceutical alternatives for clients to
enhance their current medications/treatment.
