Program Goals
Graduates are generalists entering a self-regulating profession in situations of health and illness.

importantforpatientcareandinformation.
o Ihadapatientwithorthostatichypotension,whenIassessed
hervitalsherBPwaslow,muchlowerthanithadbeen30
minutesbefore.ThiswassomethingIfoundimportantto
informmyclinicalinstructorabout,Ilookedatherprevious
BPsfromthatweekandtheywereallveryinconsistent
howevernonewerethatlow.So,Iintervenedbymakingsure
thatnoneofhermedswerecausingherBPtodrop,notified
myclinicalinstructorandtheprimarycarenurseformy
patient,andweallcametotheconclusionthatthiswasaBP
thatwaslow,however,itwasokayinhersituationsinceshe
wasasymptomaticandhighlycommunicative.Lateron,I
madesuretocheckherBPmoreoften(standingup,sitting
down,andlyingdown:sothatIcouldcomparethedifferences
andreevaluate)
o WhenmypatientwasreceivingalbuminforhisascitesIhad
hadanotepreparedfromthepreviousdaythatImadefrom
researchIhaddoneaboutalbumin.ThiswashelpfulsothatI
couldunderstandwhyhewasreceivingthisandknowwhatto
lookforinmyassessmentsofhimwhilereceivingthis
medicationi.e.elevatedbloodpressurewhichIcouldsee
risingsinceIdidvitalsonhim15minutesafterthestartof
treatment,30minutesafterthestartoftreatmentandthenonce
thetreatmentisover.Thiswashelpfultomeandaidedmein
understandingtheoutcomesthatwewantedfromthe
treatment.
o WhenIhadabehavioralpatientwhoscreamedallthetimeand
wouldnotletmetakehervitalsIleftheraloneforabitand
thencamebackwithadifferentapproach.(Speakingsofter,
askingquestionsabouther/herfamily/interests)thepatient
begantoopenuptomeandallowedmetotakevitals,and
completeafullheadtotoeassessment.Ibelievethatalthough
mypatientwasbehavioralIcreatedarapportwithherand
thus,mycareforherwasexceptionalsinceIwasableto 3
actuallycommunicatewithherwhennobodyelsehad
successfullyachievedthisallweek.
