Taiwan Ranks #1 in the World As the Best Destination For Expats In 2016

Taiwan has been named the best expat destination in this years InterNations
Expat Insider Survey. The newcomer took the record off two-time champion
Ecuador.
The survey had 14,000 respondents representing 174 nationalities and 191 countries
or territories. These expats were inquired about ease of settling in, family life,
personal finance, quality of life and working abroad, among others.
Results placed Taiwan on top of the list, followed by Malta, Ecuador, Mexico, New
Zealand, Costa Rica, Australia, Austria and Luxembourg. Czech Republic completed
the Top 10.
Meanwhile, Tanzania, Italy, Qatar, Mozambique, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Nigeria,
Greece and Kuwait were the Bottom 10.
Taiwan ranked first in the Quality of Life and Personal Finance Indices. As it turned
out, 64% of its expats plan to stay longer than three years, while 36% hope to stay
forever.
The country also appears to offer favorable financial conditions, as 85% of expats
claimed satisfaction over their money. The survey expressed:
Looking at these results, it comes as no surprise that one in six expats living in
Taiwan has entered the country seeking and obviously finding a better
standard of living.
Popular sites in the country include skyscraper Taipei 101, Sun Moon Lake, Taroka
National Park, Fort Santo Domingo and the National Palace Museum.
Speaking to Forbes, InterNations head Malte Zeeck commented:
Taiwan is our big winner. Its the best place for quality of life as well as for
personal finances. They are doing something very right there.
Yet Taiwan did not perform best with regards to Ease of Settling In (10th). While it
ranked first in the Friendliness subcategory, it fell at 45th in the Language
subcategory.
This is the surveys third year, and Kuwait, Greece and Nigeria remained at the end of
the pack. Greece particularly ranked last in the Personal Finance and Working Abroad
Indices, while Nigeria tailed at the Cost of Living and Quality of Life Indices.
InterNations is among the worlds largest networks for people who live overseas.
