finish at 5.00pm each afternoon. They focus on developing the general English
language skills of our students in level appropriate classes.

Students will study:

Grammar & Vocabulary Listening Speaking Reading Writing

Pronunciation

Classes will be:

Communicative
Interactive
Task-based

Class timetables will be issued by the Head of English. The exact timetable the
student receives will depend on the students programme choice and result of the
English Level Placement test, which all new students must take at the time of
registration/induction (on the students first day). This test places our students in
the correct class for their English level.

In class students will study all aspects of the language, including grammar,
vocabulary and pronunciation. They will also study the productive skills of speaking
and writing, and the receptive skills of listening and reading. Often students will be
asked to complete a task or solve a problem in small groups or pairs. The English
Language teacher will decide the best balance of language skills development and
practice that best suits the class.

Exam Preparation

language exams, in particular the Cambridge FCE and the IELTS exams (most popular
choice). Students will gain valuable practice in preparing for the reading, writing,
speaking and listening elements of these exams.

Business English
The wide variety of skills necessary for advancement in an English speaking
business environment are covered in this class. Students will develop their Business
English vocabulary, learn how to write business documents (including memos,
emails, reports, letters of application and letters of complaint), prepare oral
presentations using visual aids, and enhance their reading skills in skimming and
scanning.

Conversation and Writing

A great way to develop your oral and written skills in a relaxed classroom setting.
Students are set assignments to write on topical everyday issues. They then get the
chance to discuss and debate those issues in class before writing their assignment in
a coherent and appropriate style.

Culture and Society of Ireland

Students get to explore the historical and contemporary issues that have combined to
make Ireland the society it is today. Language, history and culture are part of the
course but so too are the major social issues of Irish society. Students will debate,
read and write on these topics.
