CHAPTER III

METHODOLOGY

This chapter consists of the research design, population and sampling technique,
description of the respondents, instrumentation, data gathering procedures, and the
statistical treatment done to the data.

Research Design

This study is non-experimental, correlational research that will use survey

method to collect quantitative data to consider the hypotheses. The researcher chose
non-experimental, correlational research to correlate or describe the linear relationship
between the profile of the respondents and their licensure examination ratings. As well
as the linear relationship between the preparations done by the BSN Batch 2016 and
their licensure examination ratings.

Sample and Sampling Technique

The researchers chose the 15 BSN batch 2016 graduates from the University of
Makati as their total population, having a 100% passing rate in the Board Licensure
Examination for Nurses (BLEN) last June 2016. The researchers will guarantee the
privacy and confidentiality of the respondents throughout the entire study.

Research Locale

University of Makati is located in J.P. Rizal Extension, West Rembo, Makati that
stands on a lot along near Fort Bonifacio and facing the Makati Park and Garden and
Pasig River. The university consists of the Academic Building 1,2 & 3, Administrative

Building, a new-established 12-storey Health and Physical Science Building (HPSB)
and the University of Makati Stadium.

The College of Allied Health Studies (COAHS) is formerly the College of Nursing
(CON). In consonance with meeting the needs of the changing times, CON has
branched into the new college, the COAHS, with broader and more adaptive allied
health programs and curricula. COAHS has four (4) centers: the Center of Nursing
(CON), Center of Imaging Health Sciences (COIHS), Center of Pharmacy (COP), and
the Center of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CCAM).

The Center of Nursing offers Bachelor of Science in Nursing, which was the first
program offering of COAHS in 2003. This is a program which addresses the demands of
the global world for employment in various ways. As it makes its graduates fully
competent in delivering standard and quality nursing care, it also trains its students to
be abreast with expanded nursing career roles such as nurse-entrepreneur, nurse-
educator, and others. Top caliber faculty members from the industry are also tapped to
mentor and educate students, inculcating theory, updates, and values. Affiliations
include the city-managed Ospital ng Makati, as base hospital.

Data Gathering Procedure

A letter of request will be disseminated to the said respondents. The data that the
researchers will gather for this study will utilize home visits, telecommunication and
electronic mail for giving out survey questionnaires. Also, licensure examination ratings
will be taken from the official results received by the registrar from (PRC) Professional
Regulation Commission after securing the respondents permission.

Instrumentation

The instrument that will be used in the study is a survey questionnaire. It was
formed by the researchers with the information taken from the analysis and review of

related literature. The survey questionnaire is divided into two parts. Part A, focusing on
the demographic profile, the respondents are asked to indicate their age, gender,
ordinal position, civil status, and student status. Part B will use the typical five-level
Likert scale in physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and social preparation of the
respondents with the following format- 5-Very High Extent; 4- High Extent; 3-
Moderate Extent; 2-Low extent; and 1-Not at all.There are a total of 24 items on the 2 nd
part of the survey questionnaire.

Statistical Treatment

The researchers will use frequency and percentage distribution to evaluate

specific problem number one, which is focused on the profile of the respondents. For
specific problem number two, we will use weighted mean to test for the preparation
done that contributes more than the others. For specific problems number three and
four, which are concerned with the relationship between the profile of the respondents,
as well as the preparations done by the NLE takers and their licensure examination
ratings, the researchers will utilize Pearson r to determine whether to accept or reject
the null hypothesis.
