From The Pastor
Did you know that Easter is the only day on the Christian calendar that is
set by the moon? Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon after
the vernal equinox. It is the Sunday following the first day of Spring. I
think that is great that we see new life springing up in flowers and buds
on the trees and we experience a new life in the risen Savior.
I love the words to the hymn by Eleanor Farjeon, or you may remember
it being sung by Cat Stevens:
Morning has broken like the first morning;
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird.
Praise for the singing! Praise for the morning!
Praise for them springing fresh from the Word!

PASTORS CORNER All around us we are seeing new life springing up! I hope that you are
experiencing the joy of being Easter people.

See you in church Sunday.

Peace,

A Note From The Associate Pastor

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present
your requests to God. ~ Philippians 4:6

This verse tells us that Christians do not have to live in a state of anxiety, worry, fear or confusion.
Paul in this verse tells us the secret to overcoming anxiety is to rejoice constantly in the Lord and to
pray to God, constantly for His provision, His goodness, and His mercy.

Now that we are journeying through the Lenten Season, and the focus for this season is on sacrific-
ing, giving up something that is not good for us or our taking on a behavior that will enhance our rela-
tionship with God. I want to challenge you to spend more time with God in this season through pray-
er.

Through the journey of prayer, we are seeking Gods presence and direction in our lives. Stanley J.
Grenz, in his book titled Prayer: The Cry for the Kingdom says that we are no longer a praying
world. Rather than God being the center of everything, we have displaced him with, love of self,
being the center of all things. In other words, God, has been pushed to the margins, offstage or
backstage. Our world has become a world that listens and answers mostly to one another, very little
listening and answering to God. So, I am asking that we, Christians, make God the center of our
everything by praying and giving thanks in everything.

Grace,

Maundy Thursday Service

April 13, 6:00 pm - Family Life Center
Maundy Thursday, or Holy Thursday, is the Thursday of Holy Week where we com-
memorate the institution of the Lords Supper, or Holy Communion. Maundy is from the
Latin word for command. It reminds us of Jesus words in John 13:34, A new com-
mandment I give to you. At this service we are reminded of Jesus and the disciples
celebrating the Passover meal. Prior to the meal Jesus washes the feet of the disciples
to remind them, and us, of our role as servants. This year our Maundy Thursday service will be held in the Family Life Center at 6:00 pm. We will
meet around tables much like the Disciples did at that first Lords Supper. This is a family-friendly service where all ages are welcome. Our music
will be led by members of the Contemporary Service Praise Team.
Good Friday Service
Friday, April 14 at 6:00 pm in the Sanctuary
Good Friday is the day when we remember Jesus Christs death on the cross. This somber service is
sometimes called A Service of Darkness, or Tenebrae Service. Tenebrae comes from the Latin word
meaning darkness. Our service this year will center around the seven last words Jesus spoke from the
cross. The service will be in the Sanctuary at 6:00 pm, and the Chancel Choir will lead our music as can-
dles are extinguished after each song and scripture reading. During the service, children are invited to the
Library to experience the Childrens Prayer Room.

JOURNEYS OF PAUL CRUISE (Oct 6 17, 2017)

Many of you have had a study with Rev. Adam Hamilton in your Sunday School Class; now you can join him as he leads a
fascinating and inspirational journey following the last of the Pauls missionary voyages. Sailing from Rome, we will explore
the lands and experience the life and ministry of the great Apostle. Deploy your every sense as we soak in the sights,
sounds, smells, and tastes of the Mediterranean world. Surrounded by ancient hills and rolling seas, the truth of scripture
will spring to life during times of practical Bible study, powerful worship, and fun-filled fellowship. More than the places we
visit, though, the people with whom we visit will make all the difference during this holy experience more than a vacation,
this will be a pilgrimage that will touch and change your life forever. The trip is October 6-17, 2017. Brochures with sign-up
information are available in the church office.
