Controlled Copy Issue Log: (Applicable only for hard copy as may be required outside of EDMS)
This hard copy document has been assigned as below and will be reissued automatically upon any future revision.
The purpose of this document is to present the design calculations in the form of spot checks to verify the element
sizes as the de scope report for the UPS room in Qatar National Museum Station. The UPS room has been
modelled in ROBOT structural analysis software. It is assumed that UPS room is not connected to any of the
station element and directly resting on station box roof. However the loads from the adjacent structure has been
applied as a surcharge on the structure.
2. SCOPE
This document indicates design verification calculations for elements/parts of elements for the UPS room where the
scope is to provide the de scope report, design verification in the form of spot checks and Robot plots which is
further taken up by 3rd party designer.
For descope package, the determination of reinforcement, including calculation of minimum shrinkage control steel
shall be carried out by the 3rd party designer using the de scoped plots provided.
Atkins has been instructed to provide de scope report to the UPS room for I-Type Qatar National Museum Station.

ROBOT MODEL:
1.1 Preface
A finite element model of the UPS room was constructed with Robot software by Autodesk.
The model has been produced to enable a non-linear structural analysis of the underground buildings to
be performed. The analysis will provide factored (ULS) and unfactored (SLS) results for all modelled
structural elements which will allow the size and reinforcement quantities to be determined.
Upper and lower bound conditions have been considered to envelope the ULS combinations specified in
the Design Basis Report. The upper bound condition assumes that the design ground water level
(DGWL) is at ground level, and considers maximum uplift with minimum dead load and no live loads.
The lower bound condition assumes that the DGWL is at the lowest recorded GWL, well below the
station box roof level. Additionally, the case of maximum uplift and maximum dead and live loads has
been considered.
The model uses the pinned support throughout the base as it is resting on the top of station which in is
very stiff in nature. Also, it has been assumed that there is no gap between the top of station roof and the
UPS base slab.
a) The lateral earth pressure loading on the external station walls were calculated using at-rest
pressure K0 (where backfill K0 = 0.43) as per the Employers Requirements and the station
structural basis of design report M006-GDB-STR-RPT-00003.
