2. Select 3 passages from each essay. Select passages that somehow relate to SOLUTIONS to the problems associated with segregation and
inequality in todays society. Write a 1-2 paragraph response to each passage.

Vega spotted a young toddler who looked anxious, confused and lost. She walked over to him, bent down and asked the boy, Baby

are you OK? he answered, they shot mike-mike and I saw him dad in the street

This is a very important and shocking moment that we see, as the little kid had to see someone dead on the street. Because of

the problems that we are facing, and the causes of this, I believe that we should start teaching about diversity, equality are a younger

age. This can create a generation of acceptance towards others, rather than hate. We can also teach unite which can help people fight

for what is right. Also by making parents have more information on issues like racism and segregation, is beneficial for their children,

since they can be able to pass on values which create peace and acceptance.

The OBS members knew some of the demonstrators local labor organizers. Solidarity activist, anarchist. But as the crowd

swelled, it looked less like an ordinary protest

This quote shows what unity can do as we try to fight for the right thing. As Ferguson battled with law enforcements, people

were able to start uniting for the cause to try to make justice happen. The fact that the protest grew, shows that everyone wanted justice
and wanted law enforcements to stop stereotyping African Americans. The solution is for us to be united, and be one, when things

accrue which are wrong and go against what we stand for as a country. Being able to put our differences aside is important, so we can

make change happen for the better

Personal Dictionary:
1. Subordination: the act of placing in a lower rank or position, or the act of subordinating or of making dependent secondary or

subservient(dictionary)
When this article uses the word it means that people of color are put in lower levels based on their background, language or

culture. I learned that there are many layers when it comes to placing someone in the education system.

2. Radical oppression: to burden a specific race by exploitation and mistreating them while it being socially acceptable. I learned

that as a society we should be watchful of one another because when mistreating someone based on their culture begins to be

socially acceptable it can create bigger problems for everyone.

3. Sociocultural: combining social and cultural factors. When the author uses this in his article he refers saying that in order to

have a balanced education system you need to incorporable all culture into each course and not let one dominate the system.

Important Quote:
In other words culture capital is not just inherited or possessed by middle class but rather it refers to an accumulation of specific

forms of knowledge skills and abilities that are valued by privileged groups in society

What the author is saying is that the dominate group in a society picks which abilities will be important in order to have social

mobility and be important in a society. The reason why this stood out to me is because a person can be talented and knowledgeable to

some but if they go against what society thinks is right then they arent skillful or useful in their society. This to me is powerful how a

certain culture can say whats useful in a society and discard anything else because to them it isnt important.
