Today I attended the newborn-6 year drop in program. All
week there have been drop ins at both the Cumberland
and Aldershot locations for March break, however for
today, this drop in is the exact same as the typical Friday
morning drop in from 9:15am- 12:00pm. For the
afternoon, the ROCK fee for service program is cancelled
and will start back up next week. The drop in program
started and ended with circle time. In the program the
activities included free play art and sensory activities.
The center is set up with toys for free play as well as
books for reading.
Objectives:
1. To give the children the opportunity to engage in
new activities/toys that they may not have access
to at home.
2. To allow the children to interact with other
children to build their social skills.
3. For the parents to converse with other families
4. For parents to have the opportunity to ask the
professionals any questions they may have
regarding their child(ren).
5. To give the family a chance to get out of the house
and experience a chance of scenery.
Description:
1. We had the room set up with a creative and
sensory activity. The space had a wide variety of
toys due to the wide variety or children that attend
this program. There were toys age appropriate for
age zero to six.
2. The creative table was set up for open art with a
wide variety of art materials to manipulate.
3. There was also an art easel with paints.
4. The sensory activity was play-dough
5. The the sensory bin, there was coloured snow
with scoops and cups.
6. Around the room as well as at the door, there are
many resources for the parents such as flyers,
pamphlets etc.
7. The educators are present as well as other
professionals to answer the parents
question/concerns.

Signature:
The drop in filled up very quickly today, but is also
emptied quite fast. The group was predominantly young
children, but around 11:30, the younger children left and
preschool/school aged children remained. The children
were very interested in the sensory bin activity. A student
from Sheridan put snow in the bin and coloured the snow
with the children. She also brought eye droppers so that
the children could mix the coloured water to experiment
with colour mixing. Today, as opposed to yesterday,
parents seemed to notice their childs needs better. When
children started getting tired, parents left. Previously this
was not the case. Overall, the drop in seemed to be very
successful and enjoyable for both the caregivers and
children.
