SUBJECT: Consideration of a resolution amending the 2017 Council meeting calendar.

RECOMMENDATION

Adopt a resolution amending the 2017 Council meeting calendar.

BACKGROUND / SUMMARY
Per Municipal Code section 2.04.10 The City Council shall hold regular meetings as follows: A. 4:30 p.m.
(open session, regular meeting) on the first Tuesday of each month in the City Hall Council Chamber, unless
otherwise established from time to time by City Council resolution.

To establish a more balanced Council calendar that allows for sufficient agenda packet preparation time and
adequate time for Council to review materials, the Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem are recommending shifting the
August and October Council meeting dates from Tuesday, August 1, 2017 to Tuesday, August 8, 2017 and
from Tuesday, October 2, 2017 to Tuesday, October 10, 2017. In recent years, Council has also utilized the
Monday before the regularly scheduled Tuesday Council Meeting to hold workshops study sessions. It is
recommended that the Monday, July 31, 2017 date be moved to Monday, August 7, 2017 and Monday,
October 1, 2017 to Monday, October 9, 2017, respectively as needed.

Council adopted the 2017 Council meeting calendar at its regular meeting held Tuesday, December 6, 2017.

RESOLUTION NO. 2017-___

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA APPROVING THE

AMENDED REGULAR MEETING DATES OF THE CITY COUNCIL FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2017.

WHEREAS, Section 2.04.010 of the Citys Municipal Code stipulates that the Council regular meetings
are held on the first Tuesday of the month beginning at 4:30 pm and the Tour of Inspection on the Monday
prior to the regular meeting of the month, unless otherwise established from time to time by resolution; and

WHEREAS, the Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem have proposed amendments to the 2017 Council
calendar to establish a balanced calendar to allow sufficient time for agenda packet preparation and review;
and

WHEREAS, the proposed changes result in the August and October meetings being held on the
second Tuesday of those months instead of the first Tuesdays; and

WHEREAS, the Mayor and Mayor Pro Tempore have submitted amended proposed meeting dates,
attached hereto as Exhibit A.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL-BY-
THE-SEA DOES HEREBY:

Approve the amended calendar of the City Council Regular Meetings for calendar year 2017 as
attached hereto as Exhibit A.

PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA this
4th day of April, by the following roll call vote:

Regular Meetings: Held at 4:30 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month in the Council Chambers at City
Hall, located on the east side of Monte Verde Street between Ocean and Seventh
Avenues.

Closed Session: Closed Session, if required, will occur on the Monday proceeding the first regularly
scheduled Council meeting after the Tour of Inspection if scheduled.

Tour of Inspection: Held at 4:30 p.m. Monday preceding the Tuesday Council meeting, regardless of
whether or not there is a Closed Session scheduled, beginning at City Hall, then
proceeding to the site of the first item on the Tour Agenda.

Special Meetings: Held at 4:30 p.m. on whatever day is selected, Tuesdays and Thursdays being the
traditional days
