Describe the experience:
-Describe the completion of the
task, with a step by step description.
I assisted with the Baby Explorers program. This
program is a paid program run by the ROCK at the
OEYC for infants ages 8-17 months. The money earned
from this program is then used to support the centres
stimulation. In this program, the infants get to
participate in sensory experiences that they might
otherwise not be able to. Additionally, the parents are
able to gain ideas about age appropriate activities that
they can implement with their babies.
Objectives:
1. For the children to explore using their sense of
touch.
2. For the caregivers to see in action some
beneficial activities that their infant can learn
from.
3. For the infants to have the opportunity to
interact with other infants and develop their
social skills.
Description:
1. The program is started off with an opening
circle and a song to introduce the families. Here
the educator in the room then explains the
activities set up for the caregivers and infants.
2. At the carpet, there was a sensory path, with
multiple textured items.
3. At station one there was coloured spaghetti
noodles in a pool.
4. At station two there were pom poms, and plastic
bugs and snakes in a pool.
5. At station three there was whipping cream and
rice krispies on a legless table.
6. At station four there were sensory bags on the
floor mat.
7. In the light room there were light tables with the
transparent coloured blocks, lamps and a mirror
box.

Signature:
The program went very well. The majority of the
children werent even hesitant to participate in the
messy play. The parents were all very engaged and
seemed to enjoy the sensory activities just as much as
the babies did. The circle times also were very
successful. The children appeared to really enjoy the
music and too a special interest in the sensory path. The
shiny emergency blanket was a huge hit. Today I
learned some great songs and rhymes that can be
implemented with a baby sitting on a ball. The child is
then bounced and rocked to the tune of the music.
Overall, the program went very smoothly and
successfully.
