Established Goals GLO(s):

Develop algebraic reasoning and number sense.

Understandings: Essential Questions:

into mixed radicals.
Operations can be performed on radical
numbers in order to simplify expressions.
Radicals and exponents are the same (sqrts are What does a negative exponent do to the

this the case?

Prior understandings Students will be able to

Assessment Tool Overview

Assessment
Brief Description For AS OF
Tool Title
There will be two assignments. The first assignment
will cover the first three full classes. This will
includes the topics of estimating roots, irrational
numbers, and mixed/entire radicals. The second
assignment will cover the remaining material:
Assignments fractional exponents/radicals, negative reciprocals, O O
and exponent laws. These assignments will have
students show their work to traverse the questions
so that they can get good practice in. There will be
two different versions of the assignments; one for
higher level and the other for lower level students.
The unit test will be done on the final Wednesday I
am teaching. It will cover all the topics that were
covered throughout the unit: estimating roots,
Unit Test irrational numbers, mixed/entire radicals, fractional O
exponents/radicals, negative reciprocals, and
exponent laws. The test will include multiple choice,
short answer, and long response questions.
Exit slips will be done regularly at the end of classes
to check for student understanding/correctness of
the material and to have students think about their

processes/thinking. Questions may be geared
towards how students solve a problem or will have
students complete problems related to the material.
Pre-assessment will be on Friday March 31 when we
start the unit. It will be in the form of a KWL chart. I
will have students divide section into two parts; one
for exponents/powers and the others for radicals. I
Pre assessment O
will use this to give myself a good idea of where the
students stand with the knowledge prior to the unit.
Here I will decide what level I should be teaching
the students at.
