Reading Analysis Instructional Plan

Description of the student:

Jaydin is a student who is in the 2nd grade. He has been diagnosed with ADHD and reads

at a kindergarten level. His ADHD is severe and makes it very difficult for him to focus on the

task at hand. He distracted very easily but is relatively easy to redirect back to the topic.

Fluency and Prosody Analysis:

Jaydins fluency is not great. I would describe it as choppy with no emotion. He reads in

a very monotone voice. He reads passages word by word ignores punctuation. However, I would

say that for his fluency he is good at picking up patterns if they are in the passage. I noticed that

in pattern passages such as the one in the QRI assessment he inserted words into the patterns. My

fluency objective for Jaydin would be that he increase his reading fluency by practicing repeated

readings. This will help to increase his fluency also help him with not inserting words.

Decoding Analysis:

His strength is reading simple sight words such as can, see, me and I. He is able to

recognize these simple sight words as well as others without any hesitations. His weakness is

being able to read CVC words as well as words that have a words that have digraphs in them.

Some of the words he had the most difficulty with were hop, run and lunch. My decoding
objective for Jaydin would be that he will increase his reading fluency to 97% by practicing his

sight words and CVC words.

Comprehension:

Jaydin has great comprehension. He was able to recall most of the events that occurred in

the passage as well as answer questions explicitly. For an example of this one of the

comprehension questions Jaydin was asked was What can the girl at the beginning of the story

do? The explicit answer was jump and Jaydins answer was jump. He was able to answer five

out of five questions explicitly. I dont think he really needs too much help with his

comprehension.

Remediation Plan Ideas:

For Jaydins fluency I feel that it would be helpful for him to practice repeated readings.

They can be simple readings that are on his grade level and have sight words that he already

knows in them. This will help him to read and read at a pace that is not choppy or slow. It will

also help with his emotions when he reading. Since he does not show much emotion when he

reads repeated readings are a great way to improve that. Once he has practiced the repeated

readings a few times the emotion will begin to show. As for his deciding skills I think that direct

instruction using flash cards would be very helpful to Jaydin. He can practice his CVC words as

well as him simple words that include digraphs with the flash cards.
