Command Course 2017 / tdp144853 4

When a sensing element is
subjected to heat, it sends a signal
to the FDU. As soon as both loops A
and B detect temperature at a
preset level, they trigger the fire
warning system.

Warning system is not affected by

failure of a loop (break or loss of
electrical supply).
In case of failure of one loop, the
second one secures the aircraft.

If the system detects an APU fire

while the aircraft is on the ground,
it shuts down the APU
automatically and discharges
extinguishing agent.
In flight, The flight crew controls the
discharge of the fire extinguisher

FDU process all the warning and cautions originating in the sensing
elements :
Fire warning appears in case of :
1. Fire signal from both loop A & B or
2. Fire signal from one loop when the other is faulty, or
3. Break in booth loops occuring within 5 sec of each other ( flame
effect ), or
4. A fire test is performed

The Loop fault cautions appear if

1. One loop is faulty or,
2. Both loop is faulty or,
3. FDU is fails

There is an additional FIRE light for
the APU and a guarded APU SHUT
OFF pb located on the EXTERNAL
POWER panel

Each engine is equipped with 2 extinguisher
bottle

The discharge of the bottles is activated by

an associated pb sw. The pushbuttons are
located on the FIRE panel on the overhead
panel.

Command Course 2017 / tdp144853 10

For the APU, there is one fire extinguisher
bottle. Its discharge is activated either by
a pb, or automatically if there is an APU fire
when the aircraft is on the ground

A smoke detection system
is provided for the
avionics. Its detector is
located in the air
extraction duct.

Command Course 2017 / tdp144853 15

When it detects smoke for more than 5 seconds :
A single chime sounds
Master Caution lights up
ECAM displays a caution on E/WD
SMOKE Light on EMER ELEC Panel lights up
BLOWER & EXTRACT FAULT, on VENTILATION Panel lights up

If smoke is detected > 5 minutes, the Caution can

be cleared, but it remains latched, and can be
recalled, On the Ground a dual FWC reset eill
unlatch the caution

When a detector dinds smoke in
lavatory, it sends a signal to
CIDS,which transmits it to the
FWC for warning in cockpit, and

Function (SDF) of the CIDS
initiates following
indications/warnings in the cabin

indication comes on

outside wall of the lavatory, and the
amber light on the
related ACP (Area Call Panel) flash

The cabin loudspeakers give a

predefined chime (e.g. a triple
chime, repeated every 30 s) for
a lavatory smoke alert

Command Course 2017 / tdp144853 23

Each lavatory is equipped with a waste-
bin fire extinguisher, which installed
above the waste bin in each lavatory.

Each fire extinguisher has

these main components :
A spherical container with a
mounting bracket.
A discharge tube with a
fusible plug.
A pressure gauge indicating
extinguisher condition.
An identification label
Note: The indicator on the gauge must
show into the green area to ensure full
operation in case of a fire. 24
If there is a fire in the waste bin, the fire
extinguisher operates automatically. When the
temperature in the waste bin increases to
approximately 79 C (174.2 F), the fusible plug
installed in the end of the discharge tube melts
and lets the agent flow into the waste bin

A total of six smoke detectors are installed in the cargo
compartments. 2 detectors in a cavitiy.
There are one cavity in the forward compartment, 2
cavities in the aft compartment.
Each detector is linked to one of the two detection
loops

Command Course 2017 / tdp144853 27

The CIDS receives signals from the
detectors and transmits them to the ECAM,
which displays a warning in the cockpit
and associated with SMOKE light on
overhead panel.

Smoke in a cavity activates the cargo smoke warning if :

Both detectors detect it
One detector detects it while the other is INOP

Note: expect the SMOKE warning to remain after agent discharge,

even if the smoke source is extinguished. Gases from the smoke
source are not evacuated, and smoke detectors are sensitive to the
extinguishing agent. 28

consists of a thumb operated valve lever
and twistable handle. A
CO2 cartridge is fitted in the handle,
twisting the handle causes the cartridge
to be punctured by a
hollow pin. The pressure is fed to the
bottle and the water charge is expelled
via the nozzle when
the valve is depressed. Antifreeze
compound (glycol) has been added to
the water.
The water fire extinguisher may be used
to fight fire of solid materials, class A
fire, mostly fires in
the cabin, or fires in the waste
containers.

DESCRIPTION

H2O Cylinder is green or blue in color

Duration is approximately 30 45 seconds
Discharge range: min 12 feet.

CAUTION

Never use it on burning liquids (class "B"), electrical fires

(class "C"), and pantry or cockpit fires. Most
inflammable liquids are lighter than water and will start
floating on water, spreading out the fire. When
sprayed on electrical fires, the danger of electrocution
exists.

PRE FLIGHT CHECK :

Validity
Quantity
Secure
Wire seal in place
Co2 Cartridge intact

HOW TO OPERATE :

a. Grasp unit and turn handle to the right as far as possible.

b. Hold H2O upright with thumb on top of lever.
c. Press lever to discharge.
d. Aim at base of flame.
e. Sweeping motions (side to side) to erase the flames

Command Course 2017 / tdp144853 36

DESCRIPTION

Cylinder is red color

Duration is approximately 7 10 seconds
Discharge range : 1 1,5 meters

CAUTION

The concentrate agent, or the products created by the heat of

the fire, is toxic when inhaled. The extinguisher is not
recommended for use in confined spaces, however should it be
used in such an area, after the fire is out, ventilate
immediately. For electrical fires, remove the power source as
soon as possible
Command Course 2017 / tdp144853 37
WARNING

Avoid discharging directly on person. If the extinguisher is

to be discharged in the cockpit, all crewmembers are to
wear oxygen
masks and use 100% oxygen with (EMERGENCY) selected.

CHECK

Secure
Safety Pin is firmly in place
Pressure gauge indicator is in the green section

Command Course 2017 / tdp144853 38

HOW TO OPERATES

a. Grasp unit and pull Safety pin.

b. Hold hallon upright with thumb on top of trigger.
c. Aim at base of fire (at flames or smoke). Do not get too close as the

discharge stream may scatter the fire's fuel source and avoid breathing

vapors, fumes and heated smoke as much as possible.

d. Press trigger and spray hallon agent at base of flame in quick,

sweeping motions (side to side) to erase the flames. When the

extinguishing agent comes in contact with the fire, the fire will flare

and appear to grow larger. Don't panic. This condition is a normal and

temporary reaction before the agent suppresses the fire. After fire is out,

carefully watch for "Flashback".

e. (Discharge can be stopped by releasing trigger)
