Assumptions
Air obeys the ideal gas law: PV = mRT.
The process is isentropic.
The initial volumetric efficiency, vol, a value of 70% is used.
The volume of the tyre (Vtyre) remains constant throughout the
process
The initial pressure and temperature of the air within the tyre
are considered as ambient with Pamb=1 bar (absolute) and
Tamb=293 K (20 C) respectively.
The Ideal Gas law is used to determine the Free Air Volume at
ambient
conditions:
PA V A
TA = mR = constant
PA V A PBV B
TA = TB
V
Free Air Volume )
The following substitutions are made into the Ideal Gas law
PA=PIntake=Pamb=1 bar (absolute) for this calculation
VA=VFreeAir, the equivalent volume of free air at ambient
conditions.
TA=TB=Tamb= 293 K.
PB=Ptyre , the inflated tyre pressure of 3 bar (absolute).
VB=Vtyre , the volume of the (pressurised) tyre of 19.8 x 10-3
m3 .
