The issue is whether unpaid downloading of music from the internet is wrong.

The author is in position on unpaid downloading music from internet is an act of stealing
and it is wrong.

The author uses several types of support. The first one would be expert opinion. This can
be seen in paragraph 3 line 19, where it states that Cuttle, a legal expert, states that piracy of
software, video games and music is stealing and makes it clear that all such copying is illegal.

Second, the author use the type of support which is research finding. This can be seen in
paragraph 4 line 26 where the author said Research by Mixim, Moss and Plummer(1934), as
well as later studies inspired ny Mixim et al., suggests that most people do maintain an ethical
sense of right and wrong even in areas where stealing appears to be more socially acceptable.

As the evidence provided it directly related to the authors argument, it is being

considered as relevant. This is because he said that sales of music influence artist finance. For an
example in paragraph 7 line 57, Kahliney (2006) argues that small, independent companies and
recording artist are most likely to suffer the effects of downloading as their overall reliance on
sales is greater.

The support is objective because the author is an expert on his topic therefore it generally
give strong, verifiable support for his opinion. The author also provided facts and clear evidence.
For an example, in paragraph 7 line Moreover, Cuttle (2007) asserts that arguments such as
Carlas and Hibbs are invalid in free market terms. Publishers have a right to charge the highest
price that they are able to obtain, and consumers can choose whether or not to purchase. So, this
can be verified.

The authors argument is complete as he uses adequate support or evidence and provide
refutation. For an example, even though throughout the passage he kept on mentioning about
how unpaid downloading of music from the internet is equivalent as stealing but he provided
the refutation in the paragraph 5 line 41 that states true artists are driven by desire to have their
music heard by others and welcome the service provided by file shares. Another example is in
paragraph 5 line 43 that states file sharing is a kindness between friends. As there is a
refutation provided, thus it is complete.

The authors argument has validity because the support is logical and well-reasoned . For
an example in paragraph 7 line 57 that states Publishers have a right to charge the highest price
that they are able to obtain, and consumers can choose whether or not to purchase. Another
example is in paragraph 7 line 63 that states Kahliney (2006) argues that small, independent
companies and recording artist are most likely suffer the effects of downloading as their overall
reliance on sales is greater.
The authors argument is credible because the author backs his argument with extensive
relevant support. For an example, in paragraph 3 line 19, Cuttle, a legal expert states that
privacy of software, video games and music is stealing and makes it is clear that all such copying
is illegal. Then he supported his argument with another fact that can be verified, in paragraph 4
line 30 where it states that Ebo, Markham and Malik (2004) examined the effect on internet
downloading of easier payment schemes. During the study there was dramatic decrease in illegal
downloads with the majority of users choosing to make use of the easy payment scheme.

The author infer that unpaid downloading of music from internet is morally wrong. For
example, this can be seen in paragraph 4 line 33 where it stated This indicate that the majority
of people in the study acknowledged that to download music for free, in effect stealing it, was
wrong.

The author conclude that the act of free music downloading should be prevent by using
method which easier to the users to download music in proper way. This can be seen in
paragraph 8 line 80 where he said On the contrary, when given accessible, affordable payment
options, most people chose not to steal, thereby acknowledging that free downloading is wrong.

The authors purpose is to persuade the readers that unpaid downloading of music is
wrong. This can be seen when the author always repeat that stealing is wrong at the end of
every paragraph.

The authors tone concerned tone. The author is using a flippant, offhand writing style to
give readers a further clue about the author negative attitude towards unpaid downloading of
music from internet. This can be seen in paragraph 6 line 55 which state many artists may also
disagree with free downloading.

Lastly, the authors intended audience are government and general public.
