OBJECTIVES
First Level At this level effort is made to make the students speak a few sentences
which are useful in day to day context and also write Samskrta through
Devanagari script. It takes care of elementary skill in learning Samskrta.
Second Level At this level emphasis is given to make the students able to express all
important ideas related to the world around and to improve his capacity
to express slightly complicated expressions.
Third Level At this level attention is paid to improve the language learning skills
towards greater perfection and to lead them to understand simple literary
material.
Fourth Level At this level higher mode of learning is provided along with study of
slightly higher level literary master pieces. Attempt also is made to make
students to write literary Samskrta and idioms of literary expression.
Fifth Level At this level attempt is made to increase the abilities of students in
understanding and expressing spoken as well as literary Samskrta from
all its aspects. Necessary grammatical inputs have also been provided
at this level. The students are expected to be thoroughly equipped to
understand the Samskrta literature and other books with the help of
commentaries at the end of this level.
Third Level (Varimayavatarani)
Sansthan desires to produce self-study material on various texts of Samskrta literature
as part of third level study material named as Varimayavatarani. In this direction, the present
book Sariksepa Ramayanam was brought out as a model for this class of works, which has
been finalised on the basis of several rounds of discussion with the experts. Now we are
happy to present the second edition of the same. We hope to present similar self-study
material based on the 3rimad Bhagawad Glta, the Hitopadesa, the Raghuvamsam, the
Kumarasambhavam, the Nitisatakam etc. shortly.
Eligibility:
Those who have completed their study of first level and second level material published
by the Sansthan by the name Prathama Dlksa and Dvitiya Dlksa. Besides, those who have
fair knowledge of the meaning of cases, forms of nouns and verbs and those who can use them
appropriately are also eligible to study this third level material namely Varimayavatarani.
Sariksepa Ramayanam
Third level self study material is being launched with Sariksepa Ramayanam which
happens to be the first canto of Balakanda of ^rimad Ramayanam written by Sage-Poet
Valmlki. This contains a brief of complete story of Ramayana. This is also known as
BalaRamayanam & MulaRamayanam. Commentrator Govindaraja named this portion
Sariksepa Ramayanam in his commentary the Ramayana Bhusanam which has been adopted
by us.
In this self study material, every sloka is provided with disjoining of the words
(padaccheda) identification of each word (pada paricaya) mutual expectancy of words and
clauses {Akariksa), prose order of words (anvaya), word to word meaning in Hindi as well
as in English meaning as a whole in three languages and explanation of sandhi, compounds
(samasa) secondary suffixes (taddhita), primary suffixes (krt), cases (karaka) and dictionary
etc. In addition to this number of varied exercises have been added to each passage by doing
which a person will gain thorough knowledge of meaning and use of the words and passages.
While padaccheda and padaparicaya help one to identify the words individually the akariksS
will inspire the students to get into the mutual relationship of words through the process
called khandanvaya. Explanation of word level meaning and meaning as a whole in all three
languages help students to understand the meaning of the slokas clearly. Grammetical
explaination of various words compounds etc. used in the passage will strengthen the
knowledge of language significantly. In this wav, no aspect of understanding the passage has
been left out in the scheme of the book. Unique feature of this book is various kinds of exercises
added to every passage with a view to consolidate the learning of the students. Teaching use
of a particular word is kept in mind while designing the abhyasas. However, in the later half
of the book the exercises have been reduced as per the need.
Our aim in designing the book is not only to teach a piece of literature but also to make
the students proficient in use of Samskrta language. The exercises are designed keeping this
aim in view.
A feed back reflecting the experiences of one's own reading is greatly solicited so that
necessary improvements can be carried on in future edition.
