Laguna de Bay

Location : Provinces of Rizal and Laguna

Laguna de Bay is the most important freshwater wetland in the Philippines in terms
of support to local communities. However, it is now threatened with inappropriate
various development projects and over-exploitation of its resource

Laguna de Ba (Filipino: Lawa ng Laguna, Lawa ng Ba; English: Lake of Laguna, Lake of Ba) is
the largest lake in the Philippines located east of Metro Manila between the provinces of Laguna to
the south and Rizal to the north. The freshwater lake has a surface area of 911949 km (352-366 sq
mi), with an average depth of about 2.8 metres (9 ft 2 in) and an elevation of about 1 metre (3 ft 3 in)
above sea level. The lake is shaped like a stylized 'W', with two peninsulas jutting out from the
northern shore. Between these peninsulas, the middle lobe fills the large volcanic Laguna Caldera.
In the middle of the lake is the large island of Talim, which falls under the jurisdiction of the towns
of Binangonan and Cardona in Rizal province.
The lake is one of the primary sources of freshwater fish in the country. Its water drains to Manila
Bay via the Pasig River.

Lake Lanao
Location : Lanao del Sur Province
Lake Lanao is said to have around 18 species of cyprinid fish endemic to the lake.

Lake Lanao (Maranao: Ranao or Ranaw)[1] is a large lake in the Philippines, located in Lanao del
Sur province in the country's southern island of Mindanao. With a surface area of
340 km2 (130 sq mi),[1] it is the largest lake in Mindanao, and the second largest lake in the
Philippines and counted as one of the 15 ancient lakes in the world.

The lake was formed by the tectonic-volcanic damming of a basin between two mountain ranges and
the collapse of a large volcano. It has a maximum depth of 122 m (400 ft), and a mean depth of
60.3 m (198 ft). The basin is shallowest towards the north and gets progressively deeper towards the
south.[1]

The lake is fed by four rivers. Its only outlet is the Agus River, which flows northwest into Iligan
Bay via two channels, one over the Maria Cristina Falls and the other over the Linamon Falls.
A hydroelectric plant installed on the Lanao Lake and Agus River system generates 70% of
the electricity used by the people of Mindanao.[1]

The lake is a home of myths and legends of the Meranaw tribe. The name Meranaw was derived
from the name of the lake and it means "the people living around the lake".

Taal Lake
Location : Taal, Batangas
Taal Lake has one of the highest levels of diversity of migratory fishes of any lake in
the country. It also has high scenic values and is important in tourism.
Taal Lake, formerly known as Bombn Lake, is a freshwater lake in the province of Batangas, on
the island of Luzon in the Philippines. The lake fills Taal Caldera, a large volcanic caldera formed by
very large eruptions between 500,000 and 100,000 years ago. It is the country's third largest lake
after Laguna de Bay and Lake Lanao. Volcano Island, the location of Taal Volcano's historical
eruptions and responsible for the lake's sulfuric content, lies near the center of the lake. There is
a crater lake on Volcano Island. Known as the Yellow Lake or the Main Crater Lake,[2] it contains its
own small island, Vulcan Point. Vulcan Point was thought to be the largest third order island in the
world but Treasure Island (Ontario) is much bigger and is thought to be the world largest, and is also
on a freshwater lake.

Lake Mainit is the fourth largest lake in the Philippines, having a surface area of 173.40 square
kilometres (66.95 sq mi).[2][3][4] The lake is also the deepest lake in the country with maximum depth
reaching 223 metres (732 ft).[2][5] It is located in the northeastern section of Mindanao and shared
between the provinces of Surigao del Norte and Agusan del Norte.

Naujan Lake
Location : Oriental Mindoro
The lake has very diversity of fish species, and an important staging and wintering
area for large number of ducks.

Naujan Lake is a freshwater lake in the Philippines located in the northeastern corner of the
province of Oriental Mindoro on Mindoro Island. The lake is the fifth largest in the country and the
main geographical feature of the Naujan Lake National Park.

The lake is bounded by the towns of Naujan to the north and northeast, Victoria to the
west, Socorro to the south and southeast, and Pola to the east. The lake is also bounded by the
Naujan Mountains to the north and east of the lake.

Mount Naujan, elevation 1,380 feet (420 m) and one of the inactive volcanoes of the country, is
situated northeast of the geographic center of the lake. Several thermal springs and solfataras are
reported to exist on the eastern border of the Naujan Lake. [3]

The lakes watershed covers about 30,000 hectares (300 km2). The lake is fed by the Macatoc,
Borbocolon, Malayas, Malabo, Maambog, Malbog and Cusay Creek from the east; by Bambang,
Tigbao and Tagbakin Creek from the west; and by Subaan and Singulan River from the south. The
lake has only one outlet, the Butas River, which flow north then heads east after the Lumangbayan
River joins the river and empties to Tablas Strait at Barangay Lumang-bayan, Naujan.[1][4]

Lake Buluan
Lake Buluan is a lake located in the island of Mindanao in the Philippines.[1][2] With an
estimated surface area of 61.34 square kilometres (23.68 sq mi), it is the third largest lake
in Mindanao,[3][4][5] after Lake Lanao and Lake Mainit. It has an average elevation of 4.5 metres (15 ft).
[1]

The lake is sandwiched between the provinces of Maguindanao and Sultan Kudarat. The lake falls
under the political jurisdiction of the municipalities of Buluan of Maguindanao and President
Quirino and Lutayan in Sultan Kudarat.

The lake actually consists of adjoining marshy basins of the Pulangi, Maanoy, Buluan, Alah rivers,
which are all tributaries of the Mindanao River.

Lake Bato

Lake Bato is a freshwater lake and the 7th largest in the Philippines. It is located in the town of Bato,
approximately 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) southwest of Iriga City, Camarines Sur Province,
southeastern Luzon, Philippines. It has extensive marshes and swamp forests. The lake drains into a
tributary of the Bicol River which enters the sea near Naga City. Average depth is 8 metres (26 ft),
and the bottom is muddy clay. The pH value is 6.1, the average dissolved oxygen 10 p.p.m., and the
