Topic: Inventions.

Input: A reading about facts of different inventions.

Lexical Items: Some inventions; aluminum, manufactured, designed,


wood.

Structure: Past Passive.

Function: Giving facts about inventions

Instructional Objective: Students will give information about their own


inventions.

Material:

Time: 35minutes.
WARM UP

Procedure: Students will be asked to brainstorm as many inventions as


they can remember.

Aim: To introduce the topic and to arouse students’ interest.

Outcome: Brainstormed inventions.

Task type: Brainstorming.

Skill: speaking.

Learning Style: Analytical, Communicative.

Interaction: Whole Group.

Material: None

Time: 3 minutes.
PRE-READING

Procedure: Students will match images with words and definitions.

Aim: To understand new vocabulary.

Outcome: Matched words with images and definitions.

Task Type: Working with lexical items.

Skill: Speaking, Reading.

Learning Style: Visual, Analytical, Kinesthetic, Communicative.

Interaction: Whole Group.

Material: Pictures, words and definitions. Scotch Tape.

Time: 3minutes.
WHILE-READING

Procedure: There are some sentences after the following text. There is
something wrong in some of the sentences. Students will put a check to
the sentences that are right and correct the ones that are incorrect, while
they are reading. Then, students will compare their answers with a
partner.

Aim: To correct the wrong information.

Outcome: Corrected sentences.

Task Type: Scanning

INVENTIONS

Trikke Scooter.

The Trikke Scooter was invented in 1988 by Gildo Beleski, a Brazilian man.
It was made of aluminum and it is moved by turning back and forth. It
was called Trikke, similar to bike, but with three wheels.

Ipod

The world’s first… 9 portable MP3 music player was introduced by Apple
in October 200l.

Cell-Phone

The modern cell-phone was invented by Doctor Martin Cooper. The cell-
phones were made small enough and cheap enough to be bought by any
person.

Typewriter

Typewriters were invented to make life easier for those who write. The
typewriter was manufactured by Remington Arms Company in 1868. It
was designed by Christopher Latham Sholes and some colleagues.

Internet

This technological marvel was created by the long, dedicated efforts of


many people. It was invented to access to information that was put onto
a server.

Telescope

The invention of the telescope wasn’t made by Galileo Galilei as it was


thought. It is said that Hans Lipperhey’s children from German, invented
the telescope while they were playing.

Students will be given pictures of different items. One student has to


explain what this item was invented for and maybe by whom, and the
rest has to guess the name of the item.
POST-READING.

Procedure: In pairs, students will design a new invention, either for the
house or for the school. Then, they will have to show their invention to
the rest of the class and they will explain what this invention was made for
and the material that was used. Finally they will vote for the best
invention.

Aim: To describe the use and the material used in the students’ invention.

Outcome: Described invention.

Material: A sheet of paper, pencil, colors.
