PRELIMINARY

1 Background

English is the international language. With master English well, then we will be able
to communicate with other nations in the world. In addition, we will be able to add insight
and our knowledge for the betterment of our nation and state, because we will be able to
read literature in English, listen to radio broadcasts abroad, as well as watching movies,
broaden knowledge other. Thus, in the end we can master the knowledge-knowledge in all
fields. Tenses is important in English language education. And also is a rule in the English
language. If someone wants to master English well, then he should be able to master the
tenses well. Among the forms of other tenses, in this paper we describe the simple past
tense.

2.1. Past Tensebahasainggris Inggris

Ada 16 jenis tenses yang ketahui, yaitu: Present Tense, Present Continuous
Tense, Present Perfect Tense, Present Perfect Continuous Tense, Simple Past Tense, Past
Continuous Tense, Past Perfect Tense, Past Perfect Continuous Tense, Simple Future Tense,
Future Continuous Tense, Future Perfect Tense, Future Perfect Continuous Tense, Simple
Past Future Tense, Simple Past Future Tense, Simple Past Future Tense, Past Future Perfect
Continuous Tense. Salah satunya adalah simple past tense yang digunakan untuk menyatakan
kejadian dimasa lampau. pada kesempatan ini kami akan membahas tentang golongan past
tense.

2.2.Pengertian Simple Past Tense

Simple past tense adalah suatu bentuk kata kerja sederhana untuk menunjukkan
bahwa suatu kejadian terjadi di masa lampau.Pada simple past tense, waktu kejadian
( yesterday, last two days, last year, etc. ) atau periode waktunya ( for two months, for a day,
for an hour ) dapat disebutkan secara spesifik. Simple past tense juga dapat digunakan untuk
membentuk conditional sentence.

Simple past tense dibentuk dari verb-2 (past tense) atau to be (was, were). Was yang
merupakan singular verb digunakan pada singular subject (seperti: I, she, he, it, Andi, dan
the cat) kecuali you, sebaliknya Were yang merupakan plural verb digunakan pada plural
subject (seperti: you, they, we, Andi and Susi, dan the cats).

- Fungsi Simple Past Tense

Simple past tense untuk membicarakan aksi yang terjadi pada satu waktu tertentu di
masa lalu

Simple past tense untuk membicarakan kebiasaan yang sering dilakukan pada masa
lampau. Subordinate conjunction when biasanya digunakan pada situasi ini.

Untuk menunjukkan dua kejadian di masa lalu, salah satu aksi berdurasi
pendek (simple past tense) yang terjadi ketika suatu aksi lain yang berdurasi
panjang (past continuous tense) sedang berlangsung.

2.3.Past Continuous tense

It is used to express a continued or ongoing action in past, an ongoing action which
occurred in past and completed at some point in past. It expresses an ongoing nature of
an action in past. For example, he was laughing. This sentence shows
ongoing action (laughing) of a person which occurred in past. Past continuous tense is also
called past progressive.
Rules: Auxiliary verb was or were is used in sentence. 1st form of verb or base verb +
ing (present participle) is used as main verb in sentence.

 2.4. Past Perfect Tense

Past Perfect Tense mirip dengan Present Perfect Tense hanya berbeda pada waktunya
saja. Present Perfect Tense mengenai suatu kejadian atau peristiwa yang SELESAI
(sempurna, perfect) saat ini, contohnya: She has just gone (Dia baru saja pergi).
Sedangkan Past Perfect Tense adalah bentuk lampau (Past) dari Present Perfect Tense, karena
itu disebut Past Perfect Tense, sama-sama Perfectnya! Kalau Present Perfect Tense
menggunakan rumus S + Have/has + V3, maka Past Perfect Tense menggunakan bentuk
lampau dari Has/has yaitu HAD.

2.5. Past Perfect Continuous Tense

Past perfect continuous tense adalah suatu bentuk kata kerja yang digunakan untuk
mengungkapkan suatu aksi (dengan durasi waktu tertentu) telah selesai pada suatu titik waktu
tertentu di masa lalu. Past perfect continuous tense dibentuk dengan auxiliary
verb had dan been dan present participle. Secara umum past perfect continuous tense hanya
terjadi pada aksi berupa dynamic verb, tidak stative verb karena umumnya hanya dynamic
verb yang memiliki bentuk continuous.

Snow White
Once upon a time there lived a little, named Snow White. She lived with her aunt and
uncle because her parents were died.
and One day she heard her aunt uncle talking about leaving Snow White in the castle
because they wanted to go to America and they didn't have enough money to take Snow
White with them.
Snow White didn't want her uncle and aunt to do this. So she decided to run away.
The next morning she run away from home when her aunt and uncle were having breakfast,
she run away into the wood.
In the wood she felt very tired and hungry. Then she saw this cottage. She knocked
but no one answered so she went inside and felt asleep
Meanwhile seven dwarfs were coming home from work. They went inside. There,
they found Snow White woke up. She saw the dwarfs. The dwarfs said; What is your
name?. Snow White said; My name is Snow White. One of the dwarfs said; If you wish,
you may live here with us. Snow White told the whole story about her. Then Snow white
and the seven dwarfs lived happily ever after.

Salju tidak ingin paman dan bibi nya untuk melakukan hal ini . Jadi, dia memutuskan
untuk melarikan diri . Keesokan harinya dia lari dari rumah ketika bibi dan paman nya sedang
sarapan ,ia melarikan diri kedalam hutan .
Dalam kayu ia merasa sangat lelah dan lapar . Lalu ia melihat pondok ini . Dia
mengetuk tapi tidak ada yang menjawab jadi dia masuk kedalam dan merasa tertidur
Sementara tujuh kurcaci datang pulang dari kerja . Mereka masuk kedalam. Di sana, mereka
menemukan Putri Salju terbangun .Dia melihat kerdil . Para kurcaci mengatakan , " Siapa
namamu ? " . Putri Salju mengatakan , " Nama saya Snow White" . Salah satu kurcaci berkata
, " Jika Anda ingin, Anda dapat tinggal di sini bersama kami " . Putri Salju menceritakan
seluruh kisah tentang dia . Kemudian Putri Salju dan tujuh kurcaci hidup bahagia selamanya.

dimaksudengan simple past tense? simple past tense adalah sebuah bentuk kata kerja yang

C. Past Perfect Tense

Past perfect tense merupakan ungkapan yang menunjukkan arti lampau, atau suatu
pertbuatan yang telah terjadi di masa yang lalu (past). Maka dalam penggunaannya memakai
verb bentuk lampau dari Has/has yaitu HAD.

Rumusnya:
Positif : S + had + V3
Negatif : S + had + not + V3
Tanya : Had + S + V3
Contoh:- I Had slept when you come to my house last night.

D. Present Perfect Continuous Tense

Ciri-ciri waktu yang biasa dipakai Present Perfect Continuous Tense adalah sama seperti
pada Present Perfect. Misalnya: since, for dll. Tenses ini adalah untuk menyatakan perbuatan
yang telah sedang dilaksanakan.

Rumusnya: S + HAVE/HAS + BEEN + V3

Contoh: Amirul has been studying for this campus for two years.
