Lesson Plan # 6 Lesson Title: Draws Straight Lines and Circles

Standard/s: Foundation Blocks/Milestones include the Foundation Block wording or the age
expectation for the milestone
Child will make or copy straight lines and circles at age 2.

Specific Observable Objectives (two objectives for one child or one objective each for two
children):
1. A will draw a straight line independently on 4/5 trials.
2. A will draw a circle independently on 4/5 trials.

Essential Vocabulary with brief definitions (as needed for young children):
Draw
Circle
Line

Assessment: How will you assess prior knowledge (formative assessment)? How will you
assess learning after the lesson (summative assessment)? Address both objectives.
Formative: (Number your objectives and then number your formative assessment strategies to match
your objectives.)
1. Draws a straight line.
2. Draws a circle.

Summative: (Number your objectives and then number your summative assessment strategies to match
your objectives.)
1. Draws a straight line.
2. Draws a circle.

Student considerations:
Embedding: In what naturally occurring routines or activities will instruction of the objective/s
be embedded in addition to this activity? (at least 2 other routines/activities for each
objective) Write the objective and below it, list the 2 routines or activities in which to embed
them.
A will draw a straight line independently on 4/5 trials.
Play time
Art

A will draw a circle independently on 4/5 trials.

Number of children in the: classroom 15 lesson 1 Number of adults in the

classroom: 3
What will the other adults do during the lesson?
Motivate, encourage, keep child engaged, and keep other children engaged.

LEARNING ENVIRONMENT AND STUDENT CONSIDERATIONS:
ACCOMMODATIONS/ADAPTATIONS
Environment (and any adaptations for this lesson [including AAC]):
Flat surface at the table where the child is able to sit in a chair.

Materials (including technology and any adaptations for this lesson):

Paper and pencil

Curriculum (adaptations for this lesson, if needed):

No adaptations need to be made

How will YOU encourage children to interact with each other? If there are no other children
available for the lesson, how would you encourage children to interact with one another?
I will have other student working on drawing straight lines and circles with her or alongside her.

LESSON SEQUENCE: What you will do/say? What the child/ren is/are to do/say? What to do if
(think it through, problem-solve before you begin instruction, and plan for child success).
Beginning: (how will you 1. introduce the lesson: multiple means of representation:
demonstration, concrete objects, etc. 2. activate prior knowledge (formative assessment)?
Remember natural cues; What questions will you ask?
What you will say (including questions): write What you expect the child/ren to say:
this as a script.
-A today we are going to draw a straight line. -okay
-Here is your pencil and paper. -thank you

-Now we are going to draw a circle. -okay

-Here is your pencil and paper. -thank you

If any child does not respond to intro as you expect or wish, what will you do/say?
(error correction, such as cues or prompts. Describe.):
I will model with my hand of what I want her to draw.

Middle: (How will the lesson progress, such as multiple means of representation: including
technology, models, etc.; multiple means of engagement: instructional strategies, your role/s,
questions; multiple means of expression: formative/summative assessment?)
Instructional Strategies you will use:

Your role/s in the lesson:

Teacher, model

Means of Representation you use to teach:

Show A how to draw a straight line and a circle.

Means of Engagement:
Excited voice, encourage him throughout the lesson

2
Means of Expression child/ren use to show responses:
Drawing a straight line.
Drawing a circle.

What you will say (including questions): What you expect the child/ren to say:
-Draw a straight line on your paper. - (Draws straight line) like this?
- Yes, that is a great straight line. -Thank you

-Draw a circle on your paper. - (Draws circle) like this?

-Yes, that is a circle. -Thank you

If a child does not respond as you expect or wish, what will you do/say? (error
correction, such as cues or prompts. Describe.):
I would draw a straight line and a circle so she has something to look at when she is trying to
draw hers.

End: (how will you conclude the lesson, such as summarizing Today we learned and
transition to the next activity or routine?)
What you will say (including questions): What you expect the child/ren to say:
-A, today we learned how to draw a straight -(smiles)
line.
- You were very good at drawing straight lines.
-(smiles)
-You also learned how to draw a circle.
-A, you showed me know you know how to
draw circles.

-You are awesome at drawing straight lines and

circles. Next time we can draw more shapes.

If a child does not respond as you expect or wish, what will you do/say? (error
correction, such as cues or prompts. Describe.):
I would take the piece of paper and draw what we did in the lesson today to show her what we
just learned.

RECORDING CHILD PROGRESS: provide a data collection form here. This should be included,
even if you havent implemented your lesson yet. Your collection should be detailed enough to
provide you with enough information to make an accurate judgment about the childs learning
during the lesson and appropriate instructional decisions regarding what to teach next. Include
the following:
key to explain what the marks mean
a total of the data for each row or column
include the objectives

1. A will draw a straight line independently on 4/5 trials.

TEACHER REFLECTION ON PRACTICE: Here is where youll answer questions regarding how
the lesson went.(Complete this after the lesson.)

Based on summative assessment data, who met his objective and who needs more
instruction? Be specific. (i.e. Joe named 4/5 colors and met his objective.)
A drew a straight line independently on 5/5 trials and met her objective.
A drew a circle independently on 4/5 trials and met her objective.

Based on the above result, what will you do next (continue to add content or re-teach
this content?) (CEC S4.8)
Next time I teach this lesson I will add more shapes.

What worked?
It worked when I asked her to draw a straight line and did the motion of a straight line with the
hand while I was asking her to do it. I did the same thing when I asked her to draw a circle and
that worked also.

What did not work?

It did not work when I said we are going to draw a straight line and a circle. She did not want to
do anything until I show her what we would be doing.

What will you do next time you teach this lesson (what stays the same? What changes
and how? ADDRESS what did not work. How will you change it so next time it works)?
4
Next time I teach this lesson I would add more shapes and explain to the child what we will be
doing instead of just telling her to draw a straight line and circle.
