Back pressure valves are installed in four diferent ways. The descritio and functions that folow pertain othe FMC-Pressure Balanced Manually Operated Lubricator. A prossure manifold consists of a needle valve, fee, gauge, and needle valve. The lower internal needle valve controls flow int the upper body ofthe Tbeeator only WARNING: itis imperative thatthe personnel of his lubricator be completely aware of its design characteristics. All personnel must be thoroughly trained inte use prior to running it. Faure to thoroughly understand the way this lubricator functions may ‘osull in severe injury or death fo the personnel. PBMO Lubricator / Type H Installation Procedures 1.) Compitaly inspect the type H BPY that you intend to run, Ensure the valve hae been protetnsice a mating BPV receptacie ans tested to the working pressure ofthe ‘quent you wl ultmateiy be sting in, Ensure all seals, springs, and threads fren good werking onder (2) Completely inspect the ype H BPV running tool. Assure Its in working order by presotng fino the BPV. (3) After choosing and assembling the rac an the appropriate numberof adaptor housings; assemble the running foal to tho bottom of tho poland lrcator ro, Ensure the securing pin shan bots sas of hs rod socket afters cven {through the running fol Run inthe Allon head st screw to secure the pin othe ‘usning gol and socket. (4) tach te running tool othe type H BPV by threading it on unt t bottoms out. Make ‘up unt the running tol sug No torque is required (5) Nowmeasure and record proper spacsout using the folowing steps: ‘Measure and recor he distance fom tho Xmas tree cap or ater attachment point to the starting tread inside the tubing hanger Measure and recors the distance rom the bottom of your Woricator or edapter ized on bottom ofthe luricato), to the lowermost thread onthe tye HPV. «Subtract measurement abowe fom a. In the yoke [NOTE: Ensure the packing glands on the lubricator have been made up ight enough tohhold the lubricator rod in place. I those packing glands are not tight, the rod may ‘move downward during installation causing the tool to strike the master valve gate, Be €araful fo net over tighten the gland nuts as this may damage the packing. (8) Attach to parmetae wconch to the rod. Ensure the wrench i atached so that RH rotation may be eppiod to the roa and so the rod wl ak me down. WARNING: Never allow any part of your body tobe placed above or below the paarmelee wrench or its handle, Should the rod move up or down rapaly at anytime, the wrench could cause severe injury or death fo the personnel. (10.) Open both the upper internal and lower intemal needa valves on the lubricator, Important NOTE: At this time attach pressure manifolds to ports A and. Keep in mind that Port A does not close off when the lower internal needle valve ls closed, itis always exposed to wall bre pressure, Port A manifold assembly wil be used to monitor wel bore pressure during the running and retival ofthe BP. It shoul consist of @ MF needle vate, anippe, 3 tee, a gaugo 10,000 psi WP, and a down seam MFL noodle valve. The autor most valve shouldbe koptcosed untl such time as you ae ready to bie down well bre pressure. Port B shouldbe kept plugged through out these procedures, (112) Attach a pressure sour to port C. Open inner and outer manifold valves. Assure port intemal needovaive alsa open, Pressure up to wel pressure. Monitor folks, Ifleaks are present, Blood down prossure and palo leaks ae presen, maintain pressure (See next stop) NOTE: I gas and condensate are present on this wel, itis advisable to use a solution of glycol and water or other freeze resistant fluld to completa your tet. This wil assist Jn kogping freezing down toa minimum while running or pulling the BPV. (12) Close the upper intomal needle valve. Ensure the ower ntamal needle vave stays ‘pen and that the outer most needle valve an the lower mala assem stays Closed until you are ray to bleed down the mas treo. Ths wil alow you to monitor \wellbore prassure curing operations. Using he parmetoe wrench, lower the lubricator rod down into the ree unt the BP ‘makes contact wih the fst thread in tho tubing hangor. Note the inch markings located onthe ro wil lowering the lubricator rod Using the measurement obtained In above, be avare of how far te rod must vavel in oder to make contact with the ‘treads inthe tubing hanger. Assure you have stoked the rod down the proper amount by now double cocking the red measurement in th yoke window. Caution: Any rotation of the rod while lowering into the Xmas Tree should be tothe right or clockwise. Rotation tothe lef may cause the running too to disengage from the BPv (15) After contacts made with te hanger, pull down on the parolee wrench and atthe ‘same te rotate the lubricator rd tothe lf or counterclockwise. Watch fora 1/2" ‘downward movement ofthe rod asthe torque pn inthe running ool drops down into the groove inthe BPV. Check for downward movement ofthe fod as you rlata and ‘thread the BPY Ino the hanger. Contin to role and count the tums and distance equ to completly make up the BPV into the hanger. Apply approxmatoly 80 ft Toe the BPV at ths tine, (163) Using the parmetee wrench, pull up on th rd, disengaging the torque pin rom the BBPV, and continu to rotate approximately 8 tums tothe lef or countor-clockwso in ‘order to disengage the runing ool fom the BPV. Watch fr upward movement. (17) The rod may now be ples back up using the parmlee wrench, The rod may aso be actuated back up by using wol bore prossure. Ths is done by ciosing the lower intemal needle valve and then slowly opening the upper internal needle valve and assuring both upper manifold valves are open. This wl cause th 9 10 ave Up 2 {the pressure below the tower intemal needs valve becomes greater than above the ‘valve. The parmoe wrench should be remove should you ceeded to vse this step. WARNING: Failure to slowly open the upper internal needle valve will eause the rod to ‘move upwards very rapidly. the rod maves upward too rapily it may eause severe damage tothe lubricator and cause severe injury or death tothe personnel. WARNING: Icing atthe upper internal nadie valve will frequently occur while bleeding ‘down pressure on gas wells. (24) Replace the Xmas toe eap a required PBMO Lubricator / Type H Retrieval Procedures (1) Completely inspect the ype H BPV reroval tel that you intend to run, Ensure the toalis compatible with th BPV. (2) Altar choosing and assembling the red: and the appropriate numberof adaptor housings: assemble tho rtrioval fo! the bottom of th polished lubrestr ro, Ensure tho securing pin fish on both sees of tho rod sock afters crvan through the reeval foo Run inthe Allon head set serew o secu the pin tthe running tool and socket. (6) Now measure and record proper spacsout using the following steps 1 Measure and recerd he cstance fom tha Xmas tee cap o othe attachment point to the rerevaltheed inside the APY. Measure and recor the ietanca fram the ttom of your lubricator of (adapter if Lilized on bottom ofthe lubricator) to tho lowermost thread onthe reteva oo «© Subtract measurement a above fom. This wil nica the approximate rave! required to engage the BV. Assure your PBMO lubricator wil stroke atleast hss length plus 6 4. (4) Close the mastor valve inthe Xmas tee run (5) Bleed down the Xmas tre abovo the closed master vale If pressure happens to be present, Assure wing valves aro closed wih pressure down Seam ofthese valves Blood completely of NOTE: itis advisable to assure the wing valves and other down stream valves are locked out to assure they cannot be opened during this operation. Be careful to not over tighten the gland nuts as this may damage the packing (7) Attach the parmelee wrench to the od. Ensure the wrench i attached go that RH rotation may be apple othe red an so the od wil ot move down, WARNING: Never allow any part of your body to be placed above or below the jparmelee wrench or its handle, Should the rod move up or down rapidly at any tim the wrench could cause severe Inury or death to the personne (@) Open both the upper intemal and lower intemal needle valves on te lubricator. lmportant NOTE: At this time pressure manifolds to ports A and C. Keep in mind that Port A doos not close off when the lower internal needle valve ls closed, its always exposed to well Bore pressure, Port A manfotd assembly wil be used to monitor well bre pressure dung the running and rotieval of the BPV. It should consist of a MF needle valve, anil, teo, a gauge 10,000 ps WP, and a down steam NFL naacle valve. Port 8 shouldbe kop plugged through out these procedures (©) Altach a prossure source to port C. Open inner and outer manifold valves. Assure port ‘Cintornal necce valve i also open. Contact withthe tread inthe BPV. (13) After contacts made wit the BPY, pulldown onthe parmelee wrench and tthe same time rtat the lubricator rod tothe right clockwlee. Check fr downward ‘movement ef the re as you rotate and thread the raiova to! nt the BP. Continue {orotate and count the tums and astance required to completely engage the BPV. As {he retrieval tool botloms aut you should bogin to pk up torque. Apply approximately 50 fs to th revival tool and BPV at this time, sil uring to tho right This should then cause the BPY to begin tatu, NOTE: The polished rod moves down as the retrieval tool engages the BPV or TWCV. [At full engagement, the BPV of TWCV begins to disengage from is threads, Is, important to note the number of turns applied while downward movelnent is occuring. |f fll number of engagement turns is not achieved before the device bogins to dlisengago, this fs an indication that there may be an obstruction inthe engagement threads. More importantly, this may be an Indication that pressure has Bult up below the BPV or TWCV. In ather words, itis possible for pressure below the stinger to hold ‘the stinger up and not allow the retrieval tol to move downward to fll engagement. WARNING: Failure to recognize pressure build up below the BPV or TWCV could resuit Inunplanned disengagement of the device which could cause severe inury or death to personnel Always count turns and measure engagement or dlsengegement whil Funning oF retrieving the BPV or TWCY. (14) Continue to rotate numb of required tuns othe right o locke inorder to clsengage the BPY from the hanger (15) Tho rod may now be pulled back up using the parmeiae wrench. The rod may aso be actuated back up by Using wel bare pressure. This is done by ciosing te lower intemal needle valve and then slowly opening the upper intra needle valve ‘assuring the outer manflé valves ar aso open. This wil eause th rod to move Up {asthe pressure below the lower internal needle valve becomes greater than above the vave. The parmelee wrench shoud be removed f you use this ste. WARNING: Failure to slowly open the upper intaral needle valve wil cause the rod to move upwards very rapidly Ftho rod moves upward too rapidly itmay cause severe ‘damage tothe lubricator and cause severe injury or death tothe personnel WARNING: Icing at the upper intemal needle valve will frequently occur white bleeding ‘down pressure on gas wells. If the valve plugs and then qulekly unplugs, the lubricator rod may move up rapidly, causing severe injury or death tothe personnel (16. Afr the rod is moved tts complet up postion, check the markings onthe lubricator rod to assure ti tray al the way up. Then Gose the master vee (17) Realtach the parm wrench to tho roa FMC Fiiergy Systems (18,) With the upper internal aie stil open, slowly open the outer needle valve on th lower manioi allowing the pressure above the cosed mastar valve tabled to zero (19) Remove the lubricator and BPV and retival to! assembly Kom the Xmas tree. (20) Replace the xmas treo cap as quired. (6.) \f space is a problem, lay the TYPE H BPY assembly down and transfer the measurements to ‘he assombyy, (6) Loner the TYPE H BV assembly through the tree or BOPS unl the valve enters the hanger ‘or coupling and stops. Itis recommended that the Troe Bore Centralizr be used when running through an Xmas tee, Use ofthe BOP Centralzers mandatory when pulling a TYPE H BPV through the BOP's, Remember that a TWCV ls not to be used to test FMC Fnergysystems laa “Type H Back Prossure ValveTwo:Way Check Valve 'BOP's, hence the TYPE H BPV is the only tool that will be run and landed through 'BOP's. These procedures are provided with emphasis on BOP operations. WARNING: The TYPE H BPV may be retrieved from the tublng hanger or coupling by hand as long as there is no pressuro under the back pressure valve. Usually this is before the wells completed. However, itis possible for gas to break through the mud ‘oF kil uld and bull up behind the TYPE H BPV. Always observe for pressure during the retrieval process by listening for escaping pressure If no pressure is prosont, the valve shouldbe retrieved immediately withthe Type H BPV retrieval tool. Failure to ‘comply with these procedures may result in severe injury or death to personnel WARNING: FMC recommends that ALL Back Pressure valves be retrieved through 'BOP’s by using a lubricator. Inthe event that a lubricator is not avalable or Is impractical, ii mandatory thatthe BOP Centraizerbe utilized inthe retrieval string DANGER: Nover allow your head or body tobe placed directly over the bore of a wall ‘when retrieving a TYPE H BPV manually with rods. Continue tofower the retival tool ontop ofthe Type H BV and bogin rotating tothe right, counting tums and observing fr downward Movement whi staring for escaping 22 (6) fgasis escaping, pull back out ofthe hole and advise the company man thatthe Wo is not dead and thatthe well must be killed or that a lubricator must be Utlized to proceed further. FMC EnergySystems —— “Type H Back Pressure ValerTwo-Way Chock Valve DANGER: I gs is heard escaping or fui Is coming out, tho wall is not dead. Given that you are now stung into the TYPE H BPV you will have to elther let the gas bleed ‘down and then pull withthe ram stil closed, oF you will be foreod to pull the TYPE H. BBPV with pressure still escaping. In either event, this isan extremely dangerous situation. Ensure you clear the ig floor ofall but essential personnel and inform the Driller and Company man that the TYPE H BPV may disengage tothe target pipe ram ‘upon pulling. Stay well away from the rtary table and assure that when the valve pulled tis pulled with the ar hoist remotely. Fallure to comply with these instructions ‘could result in severe injury or death to persons (7) Continue rotating tothe sight counting tums and watching for movement down wile ‘engaging the valve with he reival too (8) Continue rotating to the ght counting tums and watching fr movement up whe isengaging the Type H BPV fom the locking toads, (©) Pullup onthe rod sting to contin that thas been propery released, (10), Now open the pipe rams and retrieve the sting.
