Reading Comprehension

What does Comprehension mean?

Comprehension (n) ------ Comprehend (v)
Comprehend: To understand something completely

Reading Types:
Active Reading v/s Passive Reading

According to Pearson Higher Education, the difference between passive and

active reading is like the difference between hearing and listening. When it
comes to hearing, you simply receive sensory information. When you listen, you
analyze what you hear, question it and form conclusions about it. When you
read passively, you don't really question or analyze the information. When
you read actively, however, you engage in a dialogue with the information
and use it to synthesize a new, refined understanding of the subject.
Characteristics of Active Reading:

Visualize: Imagine and make the movie in your mind of the

things mentioned in the passage.
Clarify: Stop and Pay attention. Summarize or explain what
you have read. If you feel, still you could not understand,
then go for second reading. When you feel, finish it. Then jot
it down on your note book in your own work.
Question: Ask question about the text. Any confusion you
have in your mind, do ask from the text and then again read
it. Do ask question from yourself as well.
