Grade Level: 8th Content Area: Algebra I Basic Productivity Tool Used: Microsoft Word Standards Addressed: See https://www.georgiastandards.org/Georgia- Standards/Frameworks/Algebra-I-Unit-2.pdf MGSE9-12.A.CED.1 Create equations and inequalities in one variable and use them to solve problems. Include equations arising from linear functions. MGSE9-12.A.REI.1 Using algebraic properties and the properties of real numbers, justify the steps of a simple, one-solution equation. Students should justify their own steps, or if given two or more steps of an equation, explain the progression from one step to the next using properties. Blooms Level of Critical Thinking: Remembering Understanding Applying Analyzing Evaluating Creating Description of how to implement in the class: One class day will be dedicated to the computer lab for students to work on this project. The designated time will be a week before an upcoming exam. Students will use the template that the teacher provides to create a review of content knowledge for them to use as a study guide while preparing their next exam. This will not only show understanding through description of steps needed to solve problems, but give the students the opportunity to choose the subject matter of the problems. This keeps the students interest levels high. As the students are working together to create problems, the teacher will walk around and ask content related questions so the teacher can know they are on task. If a student has an excellent example or answer to a question, the teacher can guide that student through explaining their process on the board for the rest of the class to see. Once the project has been graded and returned to the students, they will have ample time to study the corrections for the exam if needed. Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi): This activity would reach a LoTi level 3, due to how students have a template to follow and use prior knowledge to solve each problem. The students can share their problems and answer with other students in the class, before or after it is graded. The task does not reach a LoTi level 4 because students do not create their own unique product. Students however can use the tool themselves to create and share a product of their own and reach higher levels of LoTi. Description of the sample spreadsheet and graph/chart provided *: The lesson sample contains a complete templet used for instuction that may be assigned for a student to create after curriculum content has been discussed. Students use the template as a guide to document the problems that they create/find related to Linear and Inequality Equations. Other comments about your proposed spreadsheet/graph/chart activity: Other lessons could be adapted to use Microsoft Word as a review project beyond the linear equations.
