Pastors Corner
As we leave the snowy, rainy, windy month of March behind this week, we are looking
ahead to a great April here at ESUMC. There are five Sundays in April, and each will feature
unique and different approaches to worship this month. This Sunday, April 2, I will be
finishing my part of the Love Chapter sermons on the subject of "hope," as in "Love hopes
all things" (I Corinthians 13:7). As it is the first Sunday of the month, we will have Holy
Communion in both services, and at the first service, Communion will be served at the
railing. For those not able to walk to the railing, it will be taken to their seats. Since it is the
season of Lent, it's good to shake things up a bit and when we receive Communion in a
different way, it helps us to reflect on its meaning more.

On April 9, Palm Sunday, Scott Kuhnle will be giving us his perspective on the Love Chapter, as he brings a
message at both services on "Love endures all things." This is a vitally important Sunday and message,
because if you only come to worship that Sunday and the next (Easter Sunday), there is a chance you could
miss the message of the Passion of Christ and all that unfolded on Holy Thursday and Good Friday. Scott will
help us to reflect on all the events of Holy Week, and you will not want to miss his great preaching!

Between Palm Sunday and Easter, there are great events to help us to think about Christ's Passion. Once
again, we will offer a simple meal in Fellowship Hall prior to the Maundy Thursday Service of Holy Communion,
when we remember the Last Supper Jesus shared with his disciples on the night before his crucifixion. You
may come as early as 5:30 pm for dinner, and we will begin the service promptly at 7:00 pm. Something new
this year which we celebrate is the Journey to the Resurrection, being coordinated by Erica Dorsch, Children's
coordinator, which will take place Thursday through Sunday in the downstairs area of the church. Think of this
as a Protestant version of the Catholic "Stations of the Cross," but ending with the Resurrection instead. This is
NOT a children's only event, but is geared to the whole family.
(Continued on page 2)
(Continued from page 1)

Of course on Easter Sunday, April 16, you will want to arrive early at
both services to celebrate Jesus' resurrection. It will also be your last
opportunity to see Journey to the Resurrection. There will be no
children's or adult classes that day. Enjoy a special Easter time with your
friends with refreshments in Fellowship Hall between services.

On the Sunday after Easter, April 23, it's Holy Humor Sunday again! We
started this two years ago, and people seem to enjoy it. The Sunday
after Easter Sunday is the traditional Sunday for this service, as it is a
time to "laugh at the devil" for his failure to have the last word. The devil
was defeated with the Resurrection of Jesus, and so we're going to have
a good time poking fun at him!

Finally, on the fifth Sunday of the month, April 30, we will enjoy our Our lives have so many facets!!
