Lesson Objectives/Focus
Level B- Word work- word families; Long vowel teams- A, E, I, O
Level K- Why does the main character think these things about the
principal? Is something really going to happen to him? Cause and
Effect.
Level O- How do the main characters react to major events or
challenges in the story? I can compare the main characters of the
story and identify similarities and differences.
Level Q- Who, what, where, when, and why? I can use context clues
to solve mysteries in the story.

Language Objective:
Students will be able to orally share connections they made with the
text.
Students will be able to explain the characters point of view.
Students will be able to use expression when reading.

Main Lesson Tasks/Activities:


Students will discuss what has already happened in the story in
guided reading groups
Students will take turns reading passages from the text
Teacher will listen to students read- listening for fluency
Teacher will ask questions based on plot, character traits,
connections to other stories, etc.
Students will complete activity for their specific reading group/text
Week focus: Using expression while reading

Differentiation Strategies
Level B- Begin with talking about long vowel sounds. Students will
play a game involving the long vowel sounds of A, E, I, O. Students
and teacher will play together as a whole group. First student to get
an entire row or column wins. Play as many times as possible.
Level K- Begin with discussing what cause and effect is. Effect=
what happens. Cause= Why it happens. Ask students to think of
examples of cause and effect in the story. Pass out cause and effect
worksheets and go over the first one together. Students will then to
find the rest of the effects.
Level O- Begin with discussing perspective and point of view. Who is
telling the story? How would the story be different if someone else
was the narrator? Students will then choose a character and write
about their feelings.
Level Q- Begin with talking about each students favorite case.
What made that your favorite? Quickly review each case. Then
students will complete a case report for their favorite case. They may
add a picture on the back if they would like.
