How do I updatethe software on myphone or tablet using a USB cable?

What You Need to update:

USB/USB-CCable
Motorola Device Manager (MDM) (http://motorola-mobility-en-
in.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/88481)installed to your Mac or
PC
2 GB of available disk memory
Broadband Internet connection

Please note that an update will not be available through the Motorola Device
Manager until it has been released over the air to every model of device scheduled to
receive it. The best way to install a software update is through Settings > About
Phone > System Updates.

How to check for an update:

1. Connect your device to the computer with a USB cable.
2. If its your rst time connecting, you will be noti ed that device drivers are
being installed on your your computer.
3. After your rst connection, you should see a message about updates when
you connect. If the update message does not appear, you can check for
updates manually by clicking on the Motorola Device Manager (MDM) icon,
 . Youll nd it in your computers menu bar or the system tray. Then click

4. MDM will tell you if an update is available.
5. Simply follow the instructions on the screen to update your device.

MDM will periodically check for updates when you connect your device to your
computer. But, you can always check manually any time you want using the MDM
icon . Just remember, your device has to be connected to computer to do this.

If MDM doesnt detect your device, try the following:
From your devices home screen, touch the Menu button, then touch
Settings.
Touch Developer Options (http://motorola-mobility-en-
in.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/103922), then turn o USB
Debugging if it is turned on.
Disconnect and reconnect your device to the USB cable.
After connecting, touch the top of your devices display and swipe down to
pull down the noti cation bar. Change the USB connection setting to Media
Device (MTP).
If you do not see USB connection options in your noti cation bar and your
device is on Android 6.0 and above, try another cable.

Note: If you do not see Check for device update in the MDM menu, then your
devicedoes not support updates using MDM.
