Limits on numbers of mentees Senior colleagues

From Period 33 onwards, there are
strict limits on how many mentees
each mentor may have. Mentors are
permitted up to 50 students per
submission period (including
resubmitting students) however if
the mentor is registered as a senior
colleague or line manager the
maximum is only five students.
Mentors who exceed these limits
may be suspended for the next
submission period, or two
submission periods if the breach is
serious or wilful.
Mentor status and online advertising
and line managers
We regularly receive emails from
students who are unable to find their
senior colleague or line manager on
the public mentor database. If you are
registered as a senior colleague or
line manager on your profile, you will
not appear in the global database
because you can only mentor people
you know professionally. Instead,
please remind your students that they
need to email us to confirm your
status.

After a recent examination of Facebook and Linkedin pages offering RAP

mentoring services, we would like to remind all mentors that when advertising
their services online they should refer to themselves as registered mentors
not approved mentors. Please also remember that mentors are not
employees of Oxford Brookes University and should not refer to themselves as
Oxford Brookes University mentors. The University takes this very seriously,
so please check your online advertising (personal and business pages) to make
sure you comply with these rules. We will conduct another survey over the next
few months to recheck on this.

Reminder: Industry sectors for topics 8 and 15

Students submitting these topics in Period 34 for the first time (or those who
have previously submitted and are changing topics) must select one of the
following industry sectors:
Pharmaceuticals and/or biotechnology
Airlines
Mobile telecommunications
A project on any other sector will automatically fail! New sectors for Period 35
and Period 36 will be announced in the 2017-18 Information Pack.

MSc Applied Accounting
The MSc is a new online one-year
programme at Oxford Brookes
University starting in September 2017.
It can be combined with employment
(if required).
To gain admission, students must
have already passed at least three
ACCA professional level papers.
Students awaiting results can still
apply and may receive a conditional
offer subject to passing these papers.
A 10% discount is available for BSc
Applied Accounting graduates, taking
the overall cost down to only 1,935.

Important Reminder:
Topics 8 and 15: the 90-day rule
The Programme Regulations for the
BSc Project require students to use
the latest three years financial reports
that are available, or will be available,
for their target company and
comparator at the start of the
submission period that they are
intending to submit in. If the results
are not going to be published in time
for students to include them in their
reports, then students should use the
previous three year's results. Any
Company results that are published (in
any form) less than 90 days before the
start of submission period do not have
to be used.

Anonymous marking
Oxford Brookes now operates a
system of anonymous marking of
student work, so please remind your
mentees that they are advised to
avoid any mention of their name in the
documents submitted to the University
as part of their RAP submission. It is
preferable to use their ACCA
registration number instead so that
they can be identified for marking and
award purposes.
