Analysis of Experience as an Intern

This week, I spent majority of my time planning my lesson for the Ray of Hope meeting

this Tuesday. I found a program that works on helping individuals with intellectual disabilities

work on self-advocating for their health and well-being. The program I found was free and I am

adapting it to fit the needs of my clients. I am looking forward to facilitating the meeting this

week but I am nervous as well. This will be the first big project I present and I want everything

to go well. I also received the schedule of dates so I can line up other speakers for our upcoming

meetings. I am looking forward to having the future meetings confirmed and set up for this

program.

Analysis of Strengths
I want to reassess my strengths this week. This week I feel like my creativity was still a

strength with the development of the program for Ray of Hope but I also felt like my

organization was a strength as well. I feel that I am better able to organize my time, space and

planning for future events now. I feel that using this journal as a reflection for the week has

greatly impacted me personally but forcing me to reflect on myself and my habits. By

identifying my strengths and needs, I am able to see the areas I need to develop and dedicate

more time to. I am also able to work week by week at improving my areas of need.

Analysis of Needs
My needs for this week has continued to be communication but also confidence. I feel

that my confidence has been lacking with my ability to handle situations. I know I have the

ability but the internal confidence is not present. I feel that this need falls with the assertiveness.

If I felt more assertive, I feel that I would better display confidence in what I do. I am hoping to

work on that this week. My confidence will be tested as I present on Tuesday.

As always, I feel that my communication is a work in progress. I feel that I can always

communicate better. I need to streamline my communication as I have multiple avenues of

communication and I am unable to keep up with all of them. Therefore, I need funnel the areas

of communication into one instead of four to ensure I am able to communicate more effectively.

Self-Improvement Plan
For my self-improvement plan this week, I am focusing on the new areas of need since I

feel that the other areas have developed for the most part. I am going to continue to phrase them

into active goals. I am going to continue to make small strides toward these goals until they are

accomplished.

I plan to be more assertive in my wants and needs. My asserting myself, this, I feel, will

help me display more confidence in the material I am working with. Confidence is a hard area to

develop because it is not a concrete skills but more of an internal issue. However, the steps I

can take can help boost my confidence. I will also review my material to help me have the most

thorough understanding. The more I am familiar with the content and presentation, the more

confidence I display. The level of confidence is displayed throughout the delivery of the

presentation.

I plan to continue to develop my communication. I will improve my communication by

streamlining the multiple avenues of communication into one so I am able to effectively and

efficiently answer emails in a timely manner. I will be sure to communicate this need to those

who are involved with communicating with me. I also plan on communicating effectively, both

in written form and verbally. Communicating clearly and accurately is crucial to delivering

meaningful information.

I am looking forward to see what this week has in store!
