Modifying Panels
Panels can be modified by dragging it to the center.
Manipulating the Toolbox
The toolbox can be displayed in two ways: 1 column
and 2 column display
To do this, you click on the arrows
on top of the toolbox
Workspace
The workspace provides an ideal panel set for a
specific artwork (ex. painting, typography, etc)
Zoom Tool

The zoom tool allows you to zoom in and zoom out an


image.

How to access the zoom tool:


Click the zoom tool or use the shortcut by pressing Z

from your keyboard.

Zoom in and zoom out by manipulating these buttons


found in the tools option bar.

Shortcut:
Click = to zoom in
Alt + Click = to zoom out
Hand Tool

If the screen is too big for you to view the other parts
of the image, move around by using the Hand Tool

shortcut: space bar + click then drag to


your desired location.
Move Tool

The move tool is used to move a selection to a new


location.

How to use:
Click the move tool or use the shortcut V.
Point your mouse inside the selection area.
Click then drag it to its new location.
MARQUEE TOOL
A tool used for shape selections.
Marquee Tool

The marquee tool is used as a selection tool.

How to use:
Click the marquee tool or use the shortcut by pressing M

Types of marquee tool


Rectangular
Elliptical
Single Row
Single Column
Marquee Tool

Manipulate these buttons from the tools option bar:

The buttons above includes the following functions:


New selection
Add from Selection
Subtract from selection
Intersect with selection
Marquee Tool: Feather

Increasing the feather value provides soft edges to your


selection
Elliptical Marquee: Anti-Alias

Anti-Alias is checked by default. It makes the edges of


the elliptical selection finer.

If the anti-alias is unchecked, it results to rough edges


Single Row Marquee

Creates one pixel high and image wide row

Single Column Marquee

Creates one pixel in width and image high column

LASSO TOOL
A tool used for customizing a selection.
Lasso Tool

The lasso tool is a type of selection tool which allows you


to customize your selection.

How to use:
Click the lasso tool or use the shortcut L

To remove the selection, use the shortcut CTRL + D


Polygonal Lasso Tool

The polygonal lasso tool is a type of selection tool which


allows you to select straight edges or semi polygonal
shapes.

Hold down the shift key to make straight horizontal,


vertical or diagonal lines.
Magnetic Lasso Tool

The magnetic lasso tool is a type of selection tool that


searches for the edge of the object as you move around
it. It automatically snaps and make the selection clinging
to it like a magnet

If it selects incorrectly, press delete key and it removes


one selection to another.
Layers Panel
Layers are the fundamental basis for any artwork created
in Adobe Photoshop.
Its from this panel that you will coordinate your entire
composition.
If Layers Panel is not visible,
go to Window Layers
(shortcut: F7)
Layers Panel
Layers are stacked on top of each other in rows.
Similar to papers stacked on top of each other.
Whichever paper is on top is the one most visible.
Renaming Layers
To rename a layer, double click the layer name and
type the new name.
Creating a New Layer
There are two ways to create a new layer:
1. Go to the bottom part of the layers palette, and click
the new layer button

2. Use the shortcut: CTRL + SHIFT + N


Duplicating a Layer

To duplicate a layer, follow the steps below:


Right click on the layer you want to duplicate.
Select the option duplicate layer
Layer Visibility
By default, a layer is visible in your canvas.

To make it invisible, click the layer visibility icon which is


located at the left of the layer name.
Layer Opacity
Layer opacity refers to the transparency of a layer.
By default, the given opacity is 100%

The opacity range is: 0% - 100%


To change the opacity using the mouse, point your
mouse in the word opacity. Once the 2-way arrow
appears, you can drag it left or right.
Grouping Layers
Working on a big project like a poster or a bigger canvas
entails a lot of layer to work with. It will be much helpful
if you group the layers that are related to each other.
To group layers, follow the steps below:
Select FOLDER icon and give

it a name.
Select the layer/s that you want to

belong to the group. Drag the


layer/s to the FOLDER.

Auto Select Layer you can drag the image without first
selecting its layer.
- If the auto select layer is not selected, hold down
the [CTRL] key while clicking an image

Auto Select Groups Automatically selects a group of


layers
Free Transform

Allows you to resize, reshape, and rotate an image

HOW TO USE:
Make a selection

Press CTRL + T

To confirm the transformation, press ENTER key


Right click on the image
and view the different
transformation options.
