SC (6) 9. Identify the moon's phases.
Describing lunar and solar eclipses

SC2015 (6) Earth and

Space Science
1. Create and manipulate models (e.g., physical, graphical,
conceptual) to explain the occurrences of day/night cycles, length of
year, seasons, tides, eclipse

Lesson objective(s): Students will be able to identify and explain the lunar phases and construct a
model that represents the phases of the moon.

Differentiation strategies to meet diverse learner needs: pre done Oreos, popsicle stick instead of knife, print out of
the phases of the moon

ENGAGEMENT
1. http://sciencenetlinks.com/interactives/moon/moon_challenge/moon_challenge.html use this link for the students to work in small groups(3) or
partners (2). This is a game. Students will start at level one and work up to three if they are able. This interactive games helps them to fill in the

Knifes, and plates. Remind the students that the knives are not a weapon, and if used as such their will be serious consequences. The students will
make replica moon phases out of the Oreos by pulling them apart and using the icing as the moon.

2. http://www.softschools.com/science/space/phases_of_moon/ use this link as an interactive game for the students to test their Oreo moon phases. They
will use their Oreo moons as a guide to play this game.
