Present Continuous Tense

Afirmativ: Subiect + Prezentul verbului a fi + ing :

She is cutting the cake in slices. (Ea taie prajitura felii.)
Negativ: Subiect + Prezentul verbului a fi + not + verb + ing :
She is not talking at the moment, she is eating. (In acest moment ea nu
vorbeste, mananca.)
Interogativ: Prezentul verbului a fi + Subiect + verb + ing :
Is she smiling ? (Ea zambeste ?)

Prezentul continuu se foloseste pentru a exprima :

actiune care se intampla in momentul vorbirii
actiune care se extinde pe o perioada putin mai lunga de timp
Julia is reading a novel by Dickens. - Iulia citeste un roman de Dickens.
actiune temporara, limitata
I live in Cluj but this year I am living in Bucuresti. Traiesc in Cluj dar in acest an
locuiesc in Bucuresti.

The children are going camping today. Copiii merg cu cortul astazi.
actiune frecvent repetata, suparatoare se foloseste deseori cu adverbele always,
forever, constantly
Ann is always making plans without taking into consideration all the facts. Ann isi
face mereu planuri fara sa ia in considerare toate aspectele.
in propozitii subordonate
They will go jogging while the babies are sleeping. Ei vor face jogging cat timp copii
dorm.

Forma timpului Present Continuous am/is/are + participiu present+ing

He is watching videos.
Is he watching videos?
He is not watching videos.

SITUATIA 1 Acum
Timpul present continuous se foloseste cu verbe normale ce exprima ideea ca ceva se intampla
acum, chiar in acest moment. Bineinteles, poate fi folosit si la negativ, mai exact, cand ceva NU se
intampla in acest moment.

He is learning French now.

I am not eating now.
Are you smiling?
You are sitting.
He is not singing.
Is he dancing or singing?
What are you doing?

SITUATIA 2 - Actiuni de lunga durata in progress

In limba engleza now poate inseamna: in aceasta secunda, azi, luna aceasta, anul acesta s.a.m.d.
Uneori, folosim prezentul continuu din limba engleza pentru a spune ca suntem in timpul unei actiuni
de lunga durata, dar actiune ce nu o facem neaparat acum, cum ar fi ~studiez sa fiu avocat~, o astfel
de propozitie poate fi spusa acum cu timpul Present Continuous dar nu inseamna ca studiez sa fiu
avocat in momentul vorbirii ci in general, dureaza cativa ani.

I am studying to become a doctor

I am not studying to become a dentist
I am reading a book
I am not reading any book right now
Are you working on any special projects at work?
Arent you teaching at the university now?

Aceste propozitii pot fi rostite in orice moment al zilei, nu depind de faptul ca studiezi sa fii doctor sau
citesti cartea chiar in momentul respectiv.

SITUATIA 3 - Viitorul apropiat

Uneori, vorbitorii folosesc acest timp verbal pentru a indica faptul ca ceva se va intampla sau nu se va
intampla in viitorul apropiat.

I am meeting some friends after work

I am not going to the party tonight
Is he visiting his parents next week?
Isnt he coming with us tonight?

SITUATIA 4 - Repetitia si enervarea cu always

Timpul Present Continuous din engleza impreuna cu cuvinte precum always (mereu) si constantly
(in mod constant) exprima ideea ca ceva ce irita sau socheaza se intampla deseori. Intelesul este
acelasi ca la Present Simple doar cu emotie negativa. Nu uitati sa puneti cuvintele always intre be
si verb + ing.

Exemple:

He is always coming to work late.

She is constantly complaining. She should shut up from time to time.
I dont like that couple because they are always gossiping.

PLASAREA ADVERBULUI

He is still watching videos on YouTube.

Is he still watching videos on YouTube?

ACTIV/PASIV

Right now, Tom is writing the letter. Active

Right now, the letter is being written by Tom. Passive
