Leadership and Teamwork Reflection

1. What role did you take during the activities (e.g. while strategizing)? Are you a
leader? A team player?

I was a team player. We all worked together as a team and all took charge of roles that we had
strengths in. For example, one person planned how they think the group should make it, some
people helped in building the bridge, and some decorated it at the end. Hence, everyone had
different jobs and contributed to the making of the bridge, and worked as a team.

2. How does leadership enable a group to perform a task successfully?

When there is a leader, they usually take charge and guide the group, giving the group different
tasks, and organises the work place. There are many types of leadership, some help in making the
workplace more successful and some do not. Leadership styles that are more commanding are
usually negative, and leadership styles that are visionary, affiliative, democratic and coaching are
the positive styles of leadership that can lead a group to success. Commanding is less successful
because the leader expects everyone to do as they say without listening to their team member's
opinions. However the other leadership styles are successful because they are all collaborative
styles that allow everyone listen to each others ideas and cooperate better. From using positive
leadership styles, and collaborating, leadership can allow the group to work more efficiently and
successfully.

3. List at least three benefits and three drawbacks of working in group or team.

4. Do you see yourself working in a team environment or working in a largely


independent career?

I see myself working in a team environment because I enjoy working in groups and sharing
ideas. Also, I believe that when teams work well together, they can accomplish tasks better than
individuals alone. In addition, I believe I would need support in whatever work I decide to do in
the future, and when working in teams I can get the support I need.

5. Consider your role in the leadership/teamwork activities. How would your


ability to work in a team to a prospective employer?

Some qualities I demonstrate that would help me get a job would be that I have good
communication skills which allows me to work well in group environments. Also, I believe I am
very positive and cheerful and will give the team support if needed. In addition, I am outgoing
and friendly so I get along with the majority of people I meet. Therefore, I would be a great
contribution to the workplace.
6. Name the different forms of leadership (according to Goleman)that occurred in
your group. Explain how you know this?

Democratic was one form of leadership that occurred. Democratic leadership style because we
all thought of different ideas and tried putting them together. In addition, we participated with
one another, shared ideas, and helped one another. For example, some people in the group
wanted to make the structure in a triangular shape, and others wanted to do it differently, so we
planned out both ideas. However, we needed more tape for one of them so we decided to
construct the bridge differently. Therefore we communicated, helped each other, and participated
with one another.
