Adult Outpatient Treatment

Behavioral Health Organization ( BHO)

Behavioral Health Organization ( BHO) is a program that consists of individual counseling once
a month or three times a month as needed. Sessions three times a week last up to fifteen minutes
to an hour assessed by the counselor. Groups last for an hour and a half.

Opioid Treatment Program ( OBOT )

Opioid Treatment Program ( OBOT) offers prescription medication refills. Client can receive
prescribed medication.

Comprehensive Clinical Assessment

Comprehensive Clinical Assessment entails an hour and a half meeting between the client and a
counselor gathering background information on the client. This information will include why the
client is seeking SouthLight HealthCare s services and personal information. With that
information the client and counselor will then prepare a Personal Care Plan (PCP). The Personal
Care Plan (PCP) consists of ways to best treat and assist the client while here at SouthLight
HealthCare. Before the client receives the assessment the client must go through the intake
process.

Intensive Outpatient Therapy ( SAIOP) or (IOP)

Intensive Outpatient Therapy ( SAIOP)or (IOP) is a program that requires patients to attend
group meetings three times a week for three hours. It also offers the option of individual
counseling or Behavioral Health Organizations (BHO) as needed. Intensive Outpatient Therapy
usually lasts for about 12-16 weeks. Intensive Outpatient Therapy allows for patients to have
their own life outside of treatment.
Admission Criteria:
Clients must attend all three classes per week. Makeup classes are available on Fridays
only.

5
Housing and Outpatient Treatment Program (HOT)
Housing and Outpatient Treatment Program (HOT) allows for the client to receive housing and outpatient
treatment. The client will have their rent paid for up to 12 weeks at an Oxford House, Fellowship Home,
or at Recovery Homes, LLC. During such time the client will attend 3 SAIOP group sessions each week.
At first the client will have a Clinical Assessment in order to make sure the client is an appropriate fit for
the HOT program. After the client is approved for the program the client must begin attending the SAIOP
group sessions. It is the responsibility of the client to contact an Oxford House, Recovery Homes,
LLC, or Fellowship Home for availability.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a 2 hour, weekly, skills-based group that works with individuals
struggling with problems such as Substance Abuse, relationship distress, impulsive behaviors, and
challenging emotions such as depression and anger. Those who feel connected with the Serenity prayer
will enjoy this group.
Substance Abuse Comprehensive Outpatient Treatment (SACOT)
Substance Abuse Comprehensive Outpatient Treatment (SACOT) is an intense program that treats adults
who require structure and support to achieve and sustain recovery. Service must be active for at least 20
hours per week, and 4 hours a day, with 5 days a week, with no more than 2 consecutive days
without services. Services must be available during both day and evening hours.

6
Security Income and Social Security Disability Insurance Outreach Access and Recovery
(SOAR)
The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance ( SSDI)
programs provide financial assistance to individual who have disabilities that limit their ability to
work. Although people who are homeless have a particular urgent need for this kind of
assistance, they are much less likely to be approved for benefits compared to other applicants.
The SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access, and Recovery (SOAR) initiative aims to improve access to
these critical benefits for people who are homeless, using a multi-pronged strategy to mitigate
the most common challenges they face when applying for SSI/SSDI.

Admission Criteria:
Client must have an understanding that just because you request to have SSI/
SSDI services does not mean that they will receive said services.
Client must be homeless or at-risk of homelessness in Wake County.
Client must suffer from a severe mental or physical diagnosis that interferes with
their ability to work.
Client must have 12 (recent) months of medical treatment from their condition
with consistency of symptoms documented in their records.

7
Medication-Assisted Treatment Services (MAT) or Opioid Treatment Program (OTP)
Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) medically manages the symptoms of opioid dependence
and withdrawal, while creating opportunities for individuals to make positive life changes.
Methadone functions by preventing opiate withdrawal, blocking the effects of other narcotics
and reducing the craving for opiate narcotics. Methadone is a synthetic narcotic approved by the
DEA and FDA in the treatment of individuals who abuse opiates.
As part of each clients service continuum and clinical best practice, clients are encouraged to
participate in concurrent services while therapeutic levels of methadone are medically managed.
These services include case management (basic needs such as healthcare, housing and nutrition),
education sessions, individual/group/family therapy, enhanced services (Substance Abuse
Intensive Outpatient Treatment (SAIOP) and Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT)), and
psychiatric services. All services are integrated and designed to improve harm reduction skills
and to enhance the individuals quality of life.
Admission Criteria:
Individuals who seek treatment at SouthLight Healthcares opioid treatment program are
assessed by a licensed professional for treatment eligibility, by appointment, walk-in, referral or
transfer; and on a first come, first served basis unless otherwise dictated by urgent or
emergency needs. Priority is given to pregnant women, clients with HIV/AIDS, client who are
injecting drugs/whom are high risk for infectious disease and clients recently released from
prison or jail. Client must be 18 years or older.

Community Support Team ( CST) , Homeless Engagement, Peer Support Program, and Criminal
Justice Services. There you can also receive assistance with Bus Passes by getting a form and
presenting it to Social Services in order to receive Bus transportation. Clients can also acquire
gas vouchers if needed.
Assertive Engagement
Assertive Engagement is a way of working with adults who have severe or serious mental illness
and/or addictive disorder and who do not effectively engage with treatment services. Assertive
engagement is a critical element of the rehabilitation and recovery model as it allows flexibility
to meet the consumers particular needs in their own environment or current location (i.e.,
hospitals, jail, shelters, streets, etc.). It is designed as a short-term engagement service targeted to
populations or specific consumer circumstances that prevent the individual from fully
participating in needed care for mental health or addiction issues.
Community Support Team (CST)
Community Support Team is a six-month home/community based mental health/substance abuse
treatment service that uses evidenced based treatment modalities in combination with case
management, support, and skill building for those who need more support than traditional
outpatient therapy can provide. This team service includes a variety of interventions that are
delivered by the CST staff, who maintain contact and intervene as one organized unit. The team
provides on-call crisis response 24/7/365.
Homeless Engagement
The goal of the Homeless Engagement Team is to provide people experiencing homelessness,
(many who are unsheltered, living in camps, or on the streets) with items to meet basic needs
such as socks, tents, sleeping bags, water, help getting an ID, making referrals to local support
systems, and to develop trust and a relationship through these services. The larger, longer term
goal is to engage these individuals in behavioral healthcare, substance abuse treatment, and/or
primary care services, as warranted.
Peer Support Program
Peer Support is an individualized, recovery-focused approach that promotes the development of
wellness self-management, personal recovery, natural supports, coping skills, and self-advocacy
