South Africa is commonly known as the Rainbow Nation because of

the amount of cultural diversity they have to offer. South Africa as a whole

has 11 official languages and many people that come to visit are astonished

by the wide spread of culture. With saying that the government has not been

the best at contributing and making it fair for every single culture. Only

about 40 years ago did African Americans start to be treated with more

respect and have equality and that is because of the ANC which is a

democratic party known as the African National Congress and have made

many big changes for African Americans. Overall the government needs to

be involved and spread equality throughout the cultures in their parties and

that is what South Africa has come to do now.

Although modern South Africa shows colorful array of cultures in the

government and appreciation in society it has not always been like this. In

the apartheid era the government used race and ethnicity to over power the

weak ones. The government separated each race into category for the

government and the four categories were; black, white, Colored and

Asian/Indian, this provided hostility throughout. In this situation The

government was using its power to stop cultural diversity and were not

promoting equality. When this was happening the society was at an all time

low in everything like school, culture, politics, economics etc. The website

Welections states that hundreds of years of racial discrimination and

segregation still cast a long shadow over South African society, politics,

culture and economy and the full historical legacy of apartheid has not been
washed away after twenty years of multiracial democracy. This has become

an outrage and that is why the government needs to be involved with this

and needs to put a stop the inequality that is going on.

Luckily in modern South Africa they have made a very nice change to

welcome cultural diversity more. Although ethically South Africa is still not

number one in cultural diversity they still have made steps to help this.

South Africa keeps furthering improving how to accept other cultures and

have also cleaned it up in the government office. The government now offers

parties like the ANC (African national congress) to represent the culture that

use to not be recognized before. The South Africa government is trying to

improve and develop the economic stand point of culture nationally by

mutualizing partnerships to ensure sustainability. The government is working

hard to advocate for different cultures and that is a big reason why I believe

the government should be involved in cultural diversity.

Every country can differ from each other no country is exactly alike

and have the same amount of diversity. I could see someone elses country

not needing the government to participate hand in hand with cultural

diversity because it might not be necessary. I believe this all depends on how

many cultures are being represented in ones country. Some countries do not

need as much government control because they already have equality in

cultural diversity. Diversity is a big reason why countries can make it or break

it in this world. When you have different cultures coming together you can be

a power country.
