Anticipatory Set
The teacher will show the comic by C. Cassandra to the class as an introduction and will use the
following questions to prompt a discussion the the students.
Discussion Questions:
Why does the girl take a nap when she knows that she has a lot of stuff to do?
Is this going to help her?
How is she going to feel when she wakes up later and still has all that stuff to do?
Is it okay that she takes a nap?
What else can she do that might be more helpful?
Lecture: Health Management Strategies
This lecture will cover basic health management strategies and why the health management
strategies are important. The teacher will write notes on the board in with the format below for
students to transfer into their health class notebooks. English language learners and students
with special needs may use note guides to help them follow along with the lesson.

What is health management?
Health management is a routine of positive health decisions and practices used to
keep us healthy.

Activity: The Importance of Health Management Strategies


Students will be asked to complete a worksheet that requires them to demonstrates the
importance of health management strategies by drawing what it looks like when they use a
health management strategy versus what it looks like when you do not. At the bottom of the
worksheet they are asked to write three reasons why health management strategies are
important.

Discussion: Influences on Health Practices


The teacher will lead a class discussion using the discussion questions below to encourage
student participation. The teacher will make a list on the board of influences as students bring
them up in discussion.
